Super fun car for the money, just know what you're getting into: at some point, something IS going to break, and you're going to have to take it apart to fix it. The faster the RC goes, the harder it runs into things.
I got tired of seeing this thing on my workbench after the third time it broke in a year with fairly light usage, and now it's been sitting in my garage for another year waiting for me to crack it open again (something with steering this time).
I didn't even drive it that hard--this car just kind of straddles the two worlds of "very fast hobby grade RC" and "budget plastic parts grinding on each other". By the time you replace all the plastic stuff with metal, you probably should've just bought a more expensive RC.
As great of a deal as this car is (I actually got it for $60 a couple Christmases back), it's kind of hard to recommend to someone who doesn't know what they're signing up for. It's going to absolutely blow the doors off of all the junk you've tried off-the-shelf at Target, but it also might leave you wishing you bought just a liiiiiitle bit more car.
If you do go with this I'd recommend ordering at least 3 to 5 spur gears and diff cups when you do. Ours chew through those like mad. Otherwise a great RC.
The Boost Line up looks really great as an alternative and probably why this one is marked down.
I have two of these for my Son and I, from previous sales and have been enjoying them for at least a couple years now. The only upgrade was a 7500 battery. I Highly recommend.

Great deal here...but would spring for this deal which is even better truck at only $80 more...become a member for only $10 (give you a 10 bcard back) and dont need to renew annual membership if not wanted afterwards.
Not bad. This or a Traxxas Stampede would be a great entry into hobby grade RC stuff. First upgrades would be a proper charger like an Imax B6 or equivalent, lipo battery and any specific bulletproofing needed.
These 2WD trucks are great for pavement, gravel and very short grass. Forget about sand or taller grass.
Completely dependent on the driver's trigger finger, the type of terrain, the battery capacity and quality, etc. But on a brushed machine like this it's probably a good 20+ minutes on a LiPo charge.
A tank would get you at least a few hours I would think... The noise I agree would be aggravating. But for me the recharging of battery is the worst
My buddy growing up had gas powered rc cars, those fuel lines ended up being the bane of his dad's existence. They spent at least equal time repairing as they did driving.
So disappointed. Just arrived tonight. Son drove it up our rounded driveway curb and the wheel broke off. Metal axle snapped in half. Doesn't seem like a rugged truck.
Beginner here. Test drove it today and this mother trucker hauls! Accidentally hit an uneven paver and it went airborne and when it landed flipped and somehow bounce back and kept going. The battery life was garbage but it was expected. I'm absolutely loving it so far. One of the back tires came with a defective flat that doesn't go away and causes a wired wobble??

These are reasonably durable RC cars. Unfortunately front suspension and uprights/spinals are some of the most likely parts to get broken. A corner impact hit goes into those parts. The large tires make this sort of damage more likely vs if the same chassis had smaller wheels. That said, this sort of damage is not uncommon when dealing with hobby grade RC cars given how fast they can go.
yes, just turn the speed all way down
this way less damage when they crash. but trucks are strong.
It's not my comment that you were replying to, but I actually wanted to ask the exact same question. My grandson about to turn 5 years-old, next month, and I have been thinking about getting him a (relatively) good-quality remote control truck.
If, as you suggest, I turn down the speed, would a 5-year-old be able to physically use the actual remote control to control the truck? Would the functioning be simple enough, for a 5-year-old to use and have fin with?
Also, if you/anyone knows of a better R/C truck option, for a 5-year-old boy, some recommendations (similar in price rang, around/under $75-$150) would be very much appreciated.
If you wouldn't mind replying again and sharing some more feedback, I would really appreciate it.
