I switched from Chase a while back. It's still a little strange to get monthly interest payments after so long with Chase's 0.000000001%
I just keep everything in savings for the higher interest rate. They have a setting called overdraft protection where they just move money automatically from your savings if there is not enough in your checking to cover an expense.
Why don't they make it a full month to get 2 direct deposits instead of '25 day evaluation period' seems gimmicky and a way to make it harder to qualify for employer's direct deposits to hit in time.
That's exactly why they don't make it a month.
I've found a good rule of thumb whenever looking at a bank giving out bonuses is to skip the marketing wank and go straight to the full terms and conditions to see how they're going try to weasel out, and what you need to do if you want to stop them.

Been with SoFi for over a year as my secondary bank, no issues at all. Love them. I'm totally switching over from USAA this month due to their crappy service and .01% rates.
On a side note, I also have Redneck Bank, they are small, so don't expect much, but great rates... Also have lending club banking, great rates their too.
Thanks for this actually. Ended up opening up a SoFi account last month for the bonus and early deposit since CIT denied me for some reason (probably dodged a bullet, truthfully). So far not much bad to say about SoFi, but having no option for manually adding a transfer bank is pretty awful. Everything else has been great otherwise.
Vio seems pretty legit so I'm moving some funds there as well. Much appreciated!
You can manually setup a transfer bank, I did it in the app.

I can now, but previously it was literally Plaid or nothing, both the desktop site and the app. Contacted customer service, they couldn't do anything either. If you look up their FAQ about manually adding external accounts, it even says the option "may" appear. My only real gripe so far. But I'm loving the multiple Vaults.
so for all of you guys who says Sofi is bad, who do you recommend as a checking that has these type of rates (essentially keep it all in savings at 4.2% or whatever) ?
I am looking to move on from Bank of Crapmerica. Was thinking I could use a Fidelity MM for bill paying needs...dunno. Looked at Discover but they arent accepting new checking customers.
I have sofi credit, checking and savings, been using this from an year, its all good for me,their 2% cashback on credit,i always buy stocks for that 2% cb
You can buy stocks crypto everything at one point.
How do you buy stocks with credit? Is that something you can do with SoFi or there's a service that let's you do that?

FWIW many people are paid biweekly. For them 25 days does equate to 2 direct deposits. A full month would mean 3 direct deposits.
Edit- not sure why I'm being downvoted. If you get paid on the first and 15th of the month (ie biweekly) , the deposit on the first would trigger the 25 day timer, and your 2nd monthly direct deposit on the 15th would be just 14 days later.
The timer starts when you get paid, not when your work pay period starts. It seems that was lost on some people.
I current have a Samsung sofi account. Will I qualify with this one? I can probabaly make the $5K per 25 days.
EDIT:
After some research, i might not qualify. I already have a direct deposit for my samsung money by sofi which might be thr same product as sofi money with a different name. I might call them to see if this is completely true. It would be nice to get that $250 and close the account at a later time.
Any update? Samsung Money is having a similar promotion for new users. I'm not sure if I can open both accounts and claim the bonuses.
They split your money across several partner banks, so it's effectively multiple virtual bank accounts, each with its own $250k insurance, bundled into one.
This has been popular recently. Wealthfront for example has a similar split-bank cash account offering with coverage up to $5 million.
Just FYI if your waiting for student loan forgiveness this company is trying to block it so they can keep charging people interest. Real scumbags.
The student loan forgiveness/pause has nothing to do with loans that SoFi currently holds, as these are privately held. The company has advocated for student loan forgiveness of $10K, but they are trying to end the federal student loan payment pause that has gone on for over 2 years now, which was initially paused due to COVID. It's long past the time to restart student loan payments.
Adding that i tried to create account with them last year and got denied. Something is fishy with them, never had account denied in my entire life, i would stay away too.
TD Bank wanted me to open an account in person, perhaps because they can't verify learner's permits online.
