I believe this is because only bestbuy credit card holders now are eligible to earn bestbuy rewards, as of a recent change to their rewards program.

If you had a rewards point balance prior to this change, and do not currently have a bestbuy credit card, I think they are issuing certificates rounded up to the nearest $5 increment.

It also appears to be a slow phased rollout. My account was issued a $5 certificate about a week ago and my point balance was adjusted to 0.

I got one the other day and haven't bought anything from there in years. Probably targeted to get infrequent shoppers to get them to shop there again.

This is the last one. They closed the rewards program to "regular" folk, limiting it to Best Buy credit card holders (and maybe their paid Tech). They auto issued the last of the points in our accounts, topping off if over a 250 increment.

Pretty much lost thousands in business from my company as a result of their changes to the rewards program last year. I won't pay for a Total Tech membership and have no use for their credit card.

I got this on Saturday, which was my birthday. Thought it might be for that, because I haven't bought anything there in a LONG time..

The credit card, meh, but Total Tech is a bargain if you need the services. I had a ceiling speaker system installed several months ago, and Total Tech covered the entire installation. The invoice showed a $799 retail, which sounds about right.

I'm not one to fall for these membership programs, but I'm renewing Total Tech. Gotta install speakers in the basement now…

Crazy. In 2022 I bought 3 cheap Insignia TVs and some stuff on clearance and earned one $5 certificate. The last remaining Best Buy near me closed in the fall of 2022.

Then in 2023 they cancel their non-credit card rewards program, and now I have received two $5 certificates in 2023 for not shopping there anymore.

I got one too. I wonder if it's compensating for ending the rewards program.
