I haven't opened mine yet. I guess I should fire it up and see if, in fact, I can use it on the $15 5GB plan.
Edit: I attached a photo of the SIM it came with. If I understand correctly, Boost has both SIMs that put the phone on the T-Mobile network, and SIMs that put the phone on the AT&T network. I think they sometimes get referred to by color, one type being black and the other being orange. But mine appears to be mostly white, and the envelope is black and orange. So I have no idea lol.
Regarding unlocking, the Boost policy says they do it 12 months after activation, and it has to be active and in good standing, and it is "subject to reasonable time, payment, or usage requirements." Which I guess means all 12 months in service continuously?
I'm guessing it's not like Metro where you can just let the service lapse after the first month, and 5 months later it will unlock (and who knows if they will stop doing this). But in the other Boost thread and even older threads, there seem to be claims of people getting lucky and having faster unlocks, or unlocks after a year of on/off/on/off service etc. Hard to get a read on what to expect.
Edit2 Cancelling autopay is pretty painless. See attachment #2.

That's the att sim. The sim number starts with 89014. AFAIK, only sims purchased at retailers are t-mobile.
Once you activate, can you see if it is possible to change the plan to an 5GB annual one? I'm thinking of getting this for my son and that is the plan I'd like to continue on after the first month, and hopefully not have to cancel the plan first.
