What does bookshelf vs tower speaker have to do with how much they cost?? Sure the tower speakers in the same series will be more expensive than the bookshelf, but $1.4K isn't even that much money for good quality speakers.
It's quality vs quantity and KEF make some of the best speakers in the world and the R series is one of their top series under the Reference line. I'll take a KEF bookshelf ahead of most towers any day of the week.
I'm just happy to see quality speakers being listed on Slickdeals for once instead of all the Klipsch and other junk brands you usually see around here...
Pretty sure the Kef R3 are part of the Meta line/series. Edit. Upon research I guess there are two different versions. These and the Meta. Wonder how much different they are ?

I've been waiting for a deal on these to go lower than the typical $1,699 price that we usually see!
I'll be coming from a $150 soundbar bought back in 2015. I'm assuming that I'm going to notice such a big improvement going from the soundbar to the KEF R3 (non-meta), that I won't care about the diminishing returns between the non-meta and meta version right? I think I'm just looking for some validation haha.
Edit: OMG AND THE R2C IS ON SALE?! I just bought it from Best Buy, open box excellent last week for 999. Returning so I can have a new one with better warranty for a lower price.

I did the exact same thing on the R2c- tried to throw Best Buy a bone and ask for a price adjustment even though I know open box isn't covered and they said nope.. New one is here in two days and the other one is going back… I wouldn't worry about the Meta vs non meta- marginal gains unless you have a perfect listening space I'm sure. Probably even if you have a perfect listening space….

Yeah my used R2C literally arrived at my door 2 hours before seeing this deal, so I figured when I go pick up the new R2C I'll just drop this bad boy off at the same time.
Holy sheit these are open box fair at Best Buy if you happen to have some located near you (there were multiple open box units by me). 640$, daddy is rolling those bones. Wish me luck lol
All the Youtube vids I watched on these said you need an AVR that can power 4ohm speakers to get the best out of these since they often dip down to 4ohms. That's what ultimately made me decide not to buy them. I don't feel like having to buy a new AVR.

Haha thanks, that's the validation I needed!
Debating if I want to pick up some R3 for the rears or some basic kef for the rears.
My OCD makes me want to get some R3s to match everything
Can anyone recommend an AVR?
I have an old Marantz SR7007 but I don't believe it has the latest 4K specs line HDR or eARC
