They took over the vice grip plant local to me a few years ago but it's hard for them to compete when China nearly gives locking pliers away, so they're closing down leaving many out of a job again.

You can, in fact, get similarly cheap tools at Harbor Freight. It's true! Not only that, they're cheap all the time, not just during fake sales. And you can get them same day! Should the need arise, you can also warranty exchange them on the spot, no waiting for shipping! These are truly amazing times we live in.

To add I've tried other brands like grip rite and only the Malcos exceed what US made Irwin's offered.
