Nice to see so many deals on Midea window units. A quick search will show how popular and nicely these perform. I have two inverter units with heat pump and one U-shaped (non heat pump) unit (all three are 12k btu). I can't say enough positive about these. My only question is why they don't make a U-shaped model with heat pump. Seems like it should be entirely possible.

Do you have any problem with the heating part? I see many complains about it.

About 28.4% less than Amazon at $419

https://www.amazon.com/Midea-Inve...ef=sr_1_1?

Personally, with something I'm hoping to own 10yrs+ I'd rather buy new.
Still a great deal for those who go this route esp w/ the $36 protection
return if it's not a hassle.

Seems pretty reasonable, was looking at the LG inverter units, 10K BTU for about $450.

So I was just doing some research on installing one of these, what's up with the extra long goofy bracket that sticks out super far? If I installed it in the back of my house on the first floor where I was thinking, it would clock me in the face walking by.

Yeah I put one of these in a couple weeks ago, and why they don't have a correct size mounting bracket is beyond me.

The one they provide does is about double the size that it needs to be, and has me trying to figure out how to either saw it off to length, or cover it somehow.

Definitely a risk, depending on where you install it.

Also there is nothing covering the thin metal grille that makes up the back of the unit, so if you have young kids and this is in reach, those fins are likely going to be smooshed and lose effectiveness.

Frankly this thing is full of design fails. The U shape is basically a gimmick. Makes installing it more complicated than a regular unit, and they could have just stuck a chunk of styrofoam in the U slot, and get the same effect. Also with your window shoved inside this thing, it is now at risk of being broken if someone bangs into this (which is definitely possible, given the unnecessarily long mounting bracket they provide). Mine also has water pooling inside it, and for some reason the top of the exterior is left open for rain/leaves/bird crap to land in it and on the components inside (fan, compressor, etc).

So yeah could be designed a lot better. But that said, it is very quiet and is an inverter unit for fairly cheap.

They do stick out more than other AC's bracket. I believe this is to accommodate different wall thickness or window position. You have to position the AC in and out to get the U to sit right under the window. The bracket needs to work for most cases, so they included a very adjustable one. That's my take on it anyways.

Yeah I saw that but pretty much every other video or picture also has the bracket sticking out too.

Yeah but why would you not make some provision for it to not stick out like crazy? If you cut it down you lose any corrosion resistance of the factory paint.

Wow thanks man that's quite a reality check. I was looking at the new LG inverter units and trust them more, having two 10+ year old LGs that have never given me a problem. Would really like a minisplit but they seem like a headache.
