Personally, with something I'm hoping to own 10yrs+ I'd rather buy new.
Still a great deal for those who go this route esp w/ the $36 protection
return if it's not a hassle.

The one they provide does is about double the size that it needs to be, and has me trying to figure out how to either saw it off to length, or cover it somehow.
Definitely a risk, depending on where you install it.
Also there is nothing covering the thin metal grille that makes up the back of the unit, so if you have young kids and this is in reach, those fins are likely going to be smooshed and lose effectiveness.
Frankly this thing is full of design fails. The U shape is basically a gimmick. Makes installing it more complicated than a regular unit, and they could have just stuck a chunk of styrofoam in the U slot, and get the same effect. Also with your window shoved inside this thing, it is now at risk of being broken if someone bangs into this (which is definitely possible, given the unnecessarily long mounting bracket they provide). Mine also has water pooling inside it, and for some reason the top of the exterior is left open for rain/leaves/bird crap to land in it and on the components inside (fan, compressor, etc).
So yeah could be designed a lot better. But that said, it is very quiet and is an inverter unit for fairly cheap.

Wow thanks man that's quite a reality check. I was looking at the new LG inverter units and trust them more, having two 10+ year old LGs that have never given me a problem. Would really like a minisplit but they seem like a headache.
