I got the q800b not long ago, thinking it could be 80%of the 3.1 that I have currently. I was supremely disappointed.

Worth noting - I got the 800C myself recently. Out of the box, it was not filling the room very well - had to toggle on some of the features for it to really get punchy and for the sound direction to be correct

Yup, used the smart things app to tweak the sound a bit, and found a "surround mode" that kind of helped, but ultimately it was not acceptable as compared to actual speakers. The biggest gripe was that sounds just seemed to emanate from the bar, and they were very "tinny".

It's worth noting that my setup consists of polk rti towers and the matching center, with a denon 161x (1613 I think) receiver. The sound stage is on a totally different level, I don't care that the bar claims "5.1", and the impact of the drivers is literally like comparing a 1.5 inch driver to a 6.5 inch driver. As a comparison, I have an old polk fr1 soundbar that has more impact, creates a "wall of sound", albeit not as wide as the Samsung, and if it didn't have a faulty driver, would still be a better choice (even with the tiny sub). Part of me wants to buy a vifa 2.5 inch driver from parts express and get it back up and running, but another part of me would rather build a small box for the electronics and just run wires to some bookshelves.

There really is no reason for such a diminutive driver in such an expensive soundbar (samsung). I had wondered if the q990 would be any better, as it's a bit bigger, but it would likely have a 2-2.5 inch driver, and I just don't think I can step down to such little impact.

Link also shows the HW-Q900A for $467.92. I have this soundbar and really like it. Seems like a better deal.

There are none left. The person you quoted bought them all.
