If your PSU fails under load, it COULD damage your other components, or worse.
* Also, unplug your system when there's a storm. Surge protectors, even good ones, are not a guarantee against loss, and even the best will not work if a lightning strike is near enough/surge significant enough. Unplugging it is the only protection.

Anyhow, I only game for a couple hours 3-4 times a week. The system is connected to a UBS battery backup.
I used that calculator you linked and it didn't have the 6700 non xt listed so I input the 6700XT and it said Load Wattage: 395 W and Recommended PSU Wattage: 445 W.
I guess I could just get the 6650XT since it's only 176 watts and recommends a 500 watt psu. It's weird because the AMD site lists the 6700 non xt as only 175 watts. I guess Sapphire upped the juice on their cards.

Basically what you said is true, but of the 6700xt, not the 6700.
It goes 6400>6500xt>6600>6600xt>6650xt>6700>6700xt

If you look at the specs for the two cards, you'll see that the 6650 XT has faster clocks, but smaller amounts of memory and bandwidth. My guess is that the 6650 XT performs better at lower resolutions and the 6700 performs better at higher resolutions.
The 6650 XT is a speed-binned/overclocked version of the 6600 XT.
