With the flat-rate shipping and lack of availability of many items this is lukewarm at best.
Reconditioned is some previous owners defective or broken return to home depot. As in, it was broken out of the box and didn't work for them or they broke it, and either way, returned to store probably within the 90 day return period. Then it was RMAd and sold off to DTO for $1 so they could con someone else into buying a broken item for 25% off the MSRP. I can tell you for a fact they don't attempt repairs. Because I've gotten stuff straight up broken into pieces and unusable.
The last straw for me was a gift from my wife, past their 30 day return period because she didn't know any better. It was unusable, in fact unsafe, and I barely got them to accept it back for partial refund.
