Kidding, the irony is not dead.
That said, I will still hold my ground: pink or not, a balance bike is a better teaching tool than training wheels: any kid can learn how to pedal: they pedal their or their friends or sibling's trike or what-have-u within minutes of trying...what they lack is a sense of balance and confidence.
Training wheels teach them nothing. Just a crutch to pretend to ride a "big boy/girl" bike.
Quality of this seems to be few notches above sketchy, but for something that your kiddo might use for a year or less, it should be ok. $20 is practically given away, unless you can spot a classified for one in your immediate neighborhood that gives it away for free.

I would check the height. Ensure that he is not bending his knees too much when seated. That way, he can walk comfortably when seated and speed up himself. Remember, this is a temporary bike for an easy transition. Perhaps you can look into bigger balancing bikes, or buy a regular bike and remove the pedals for the time being.
