I would caution anyone who decides to purchase any Neato vacuum.

Vorwerk, the company that bought Neato, just officially announced they're killing the brand though existing products will be supported for 5 years. You'll find if you go on the Neato Subreddit the level of support for the past few years since their acquisition has been laughable at best. I can't imagine it will be any better now as it sails off into the sunset.

FWIW we have had our D3 for almost 5 years now. It's been getting a little wonky lately with navigation and getting stuck or lost in the middle of rooms. We attempted to replace it with the D6 from the Lowes deal posted here last year but I couldn't get the firmware update to work due to errors on Neato's side. Tried manually flashing the firmware posted on Reddit but I was never able to find the right combination of OTG cable and flashdrive to let the machine accept it and ended up returning. I was unable get any support from Neato.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Would you happen to know which brand can replace Neato nowadays?

Check out Vacuum Wars on YouTube. He does a pretty great job at talking about all things Vacuums and gives solid recommendations.

I also have a D3 that recently started acting strange. I finally had to do a factory reset on it. That process rolled back the firmware and now it won't update so I lost my no go lines. I've talked to customer support and posted on Reddit and they are no help. I bought a roborock recently and the difference in software is night and day.

Roborock is emphasized so much that I'm very skeptical it's an ad.

Went through several Neatos, same story every single time: works fine then first year, then weird behavior begins: various errors, unexpected shut downs, unable to connect to wi-fi, etc etc. Batteries are not cheap, vacuums themselves are loud, get stuck just like any other robot. In short, there are better options now.

Fair enough. I do think RoboRock is pretty good but pricey.

It might be an add for a roborock. BUT! My refurbed s5 has been going years without any need to do anything other than replace the rubber arm thingy and that's more my kids fault than anything.

Good info. I still have a D3 and it works great although the battery life sucks. Debating abandoning it for another model or just getting new batteries.

Why would they kill Neato, the mapping is fantastic...

I'm on battery number 3 - for a while there Neato was out of stock on their site as well as Amazon.

I never found third party batteries for the D series. Only the older VX ones.

I upgraded to this higher capacity battery for our BOTVAC D3 CONNECTED model in 2020:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LLH5ZMI

On a hunch that many customers order batteries and return them, we bought "like new" and saved money that way. Just as the reviews mentioned, the battery fit just fine.

We end up doing a factory reset about 1x per year but are not looking forward to the next one after reading the comments here.

I believe there's a difference between a right and left bumper reset on the vacuum. Right bumper I believe is just a reset and the left bumper will actually downgrade the firmware to what it shipped with.

Allegedly, Neato finally fixed the certificate error on the update file and the robot will update the firmware through the app but don't quote me on it.

$114 is a good deal; my d5 picked up the dog hair every day for five years, but I spent about that much on parts recently (battery+aftermarket brush gear, belt, and brushes).

Probably should've tossed it and upgraded to something self-emptying.

Hmmmm. This is even cheaper than the wyze robot vacuum that goes on sale periodically for 150. I wonder if it would be worth it to try for someone who's never owned one?

I've been using the same Neato bot vac connected since 2016. Had to send it to a repair shop once to fix something and get the battery replaced.

The battery on my old vacuum needs to be replaced again but now I shall retire the old bot and get this upgraded version for about the same price.

It's sad to see what has happened to the Neato company. My vaccuum with LiDAR and room mapping was 5 years ahead of roomba. And the D shape is so much better then round shapes for getting into corners.

I'm still going to keep an eye out for a deal on a Roborock with mopping, and then I'll locate this one to my second floor. If you don't have a robot vacuum or if you have a dumb one that doesn't do mapping, this deal is a no brainer.
