Wow, something tells me Applebee's may be circling the drain. Most business don't offer discounted gift cards, it's usually third party sellers.

They're not offering discounted gift cards. They're offering a limited time promo bonus card (with no cash value) as an incentive to get you to come in during some of the slowest months of the year. That's a standard practice for most restaurant chains these days, though it's usually for holiday time, with the bonus card being valid in Jan and Feb. But most companies offer similar promos at other times of year, too.

Gift cards are always a good thing for restaurants to sell, since it's free promotion and guaranteed sales up front, and 10-25% of them never get used. That's why they offer these promotions. And if they can fill empty seats at slow times with the limited bonus cards, that's even better.

Also, this is for only a limited number of Applebees that are owned by one franchise owner.
