Over a decade ago I used to play fighting games on PC and used a Logitech Gamepad but I no longer have it. What is the "go-to" controller these days for games like this?

I use a Xbox series x controller and it works perfect. You can pair a PS4/5, switch controller too.. also a PC compatible fight stick with work.
Logitech still makes that same controller you may have had 10 years ago, I have that as well and it still works fine albeit it's a wired controller. But yeah PC overall has really good compatibility with majority of the main stream controllers that are out there....
Great game collection though!

I'm sure all modern controllers are supported - Xinput and DirectInput will cover it. If for some reason it isn't, you can create your own controller mapping. and Steam supports Xbox 360/One/XS, Playstation 3/4/5 and Nintendo Wii/Switch console controllers natively. I still use an Xbox 360 wired controller, which has been 'de facto PC gamepad' (by what seems to be universal game dev consensus) for the past decade and a half.

Anyway, right you are, not only has it been cheaper, it's also been in a bundle (albeit a $20 bundle)

Does this version works at PS4? Thanks.
I've got no skin in this one, I already own it but I'm happy if it helps other SD'ers out.
