Overpriced - Yes. I bought my Embody on sale directly from Herman Miller for 1k with all the extras. This was in 2016, I get inflation but the new price is beyond inflation. The same chair I purchased in 2016 for $1050 is now $2020.

Over-hyped - I still don't think so. Due to life happening, at a young age I've always had lower back pain. Sitting down in an office chair never helped either. I researched Embody and decided to pull the trigger on it seven years ago. After adjusting I've never felt back pain sitting down, at least not in this chair. I used to work at an office and sat in multiple chairs depending which office/conference room I was visiting and every chair made my back eventually hurt. A lot of these chairs were very expensive as well. Plenty of online reviews comparing chairs, mostly all reviewers agree Embody chair is great.

I work from home now, and the only thing I would like to have on my Embody is a headrest. Luckily "Atlas Headrests" have made a headrest for it. I'm just waiting for mine to eventually ship.

Would I buy an Embody again? Yes. Would I wait for a bigger sale before buying one? Maybe

Herman Miller isn't the only bad guy here when it comes to over inflating cost, Steel Case has done the very same thing. The Haworth Fern does seem like an interesting option.

Lol at this commentary. Embody is great, but it is all plastic and can be very noisy. I have to lube mine up somewhat regularly to help with noise, but it is still worth it to me.
My Embody is pretty creaky, can I ask what you used to lube (and where?)?

The chair is comfortable and stylish but I had to return mine because it was unbearably noisy. The slightest movements would cause mine to make a creaking sound. You can look up vides on YouTube that show how bad it can get. The sync material also got a bit warm for me but that's probably just my experience coming from a mesh chair. If you wear headphones or don't mind noises then this chair is 10/10 great.

I picked up a fully loaded Haworth Fern for a similar price and it has been amazing. Check it out if you're in the market for a high end chair.
Do you find the Haworth softer? Tired of my butt falling asleep on embody. Plus the seat pan never stays extended. It slowly retracts after 20 mins or so.

Embody is fine, but still firmly think it's hype. No doubt.

If you got the cash, don't feel like shopping around and finding something better, go for it

I'm going for it. Really wish I could compare the Embody/Gesture/Fern in person, but no such showroom exists near me. The refurbished Steelcase Gesture deal on the front page right now is intriguing, but I'm not particularly enthused about dealing with returns/warranty from a 3rd party refurbisher on a chair that costs almost as much as my mortgage.

At least this deal offers a relatively hassle-free 30-day return policy straight from the manufacturer, and the 12-year warranty should be irrefutable. If the Embody doesn't change my life, I'll send it back and try the Gesture/Fern next time.
It's all personal preference, which is why I tell everyone to try them out first if they can. But since there's a good return policy, take advantage of it!

As someone who has had back surgery, I've sat in and used a lot of the usual chairs that are mentioned in this price range and it's crazy how different all of them are. I wasn't that impressed with the Embody. It felt cheap, especially the arms. But I had a Leap V2 at the time and the arms on that spoiled me. I ended up returning the Leap as I felt the seat wasn't comfortable (Crandle Office's refurbs with the added cushioning sounds very promising) the lumbar support was subpar and because of how the back is shaped, it didn't support my shoulders at all.

The Aeron felt pretty darn good, but being 6'2, I didn't get any shoulder support. Didn't matter the size. Lumbar support was phenomenal (the old bar one) though!

The Gesture has been my favorite so far. The arms on that are easily the best on the market. The seat may give you issues though. Like the Leap, I just don't feel a lot of support. I'd probably skip the lumbar, as I don't feel it does much. And I didn't want to take a chance on the headrest, though a lot of people say it's good!

I think the Fern will be next on my list to try. Cause the flexibility the back has really really intrigues me!

Sorry for the long-winded reply lol. Let us know how you like the chair!

overpriced/ over-hyped, had an Aeron and was not impressed at all the fabric was itchy, lumbar support mediocre, the marketing hype machine is akin to Dyson or Apple products but the lemmings will follow
Don't you love marketing? I've had their chairs at my old job. Are they nice? Yeah. Worth the price? Hell no. Maybe $300 tops for them and even that's pushing it.

i tried these out and honestly i like my cotsco mesh chair a lot more than any of these herman miller chairs. i was able to feel what i can only describe as ridges on the embody when sitting on it. also, the front of the seat, where the leg joint is, was uncomfortable.

the recline on the embody seemed steeper than most chairs i tried, but i don't lean back when i sit. i sit straight up until i'm done using the computer. so this was not a benefit for me.

maybe i'm missing something, or maybe i don't know how to use a chair? but it seems to me like this is mostly marketing. after trying the embody, i wouldn't spend $250. and i definitely wouldn't spend nearly $1400. that's just crazy.

Being a user contributed site which generates millions in ad and affiliate money, the least they could do is give back to deal finders. So insane .

Bonuses weren't cancelled, she was telling them to stop worrying about if they would get them or not. Still came off very poorly but she was implying the company is still $26 million off target and that should be the focus at the moment.
If your company is $26 million off projections in your job as CEO is to help the company meet projections, creating a viral moment that causes boycotts of your company should be prompt cause for dismissal.

People are saying there's a free 30 day window to try but I'm seeing there's a 15% restocking fee?

I still remember Fatwallet that shared cashback with us when we clicked through their site. The amount of good things in this world that have been overtaken by trash things is amazing.

Herman Miller is not one of those things. I love Herman Miller chairs, still can't afford it though. Mainly because I'm a nomad. But if I was planning on keeping a chair for years, Herman Miller would be on my shortlist. Nice to see a deal. Thanks OP.

Would never buy after the behaviors of the CEO.
Now that I looked it up, I'm not buying their stuff either.

Honestly, the CEO Andy Owen seems slightly off, micro-unhinged, if you will, in the manner she's attempting to 'rally' her employees online.

Stop paying for an overhyped chair. Search for Allseating You or Allseating You Too chair. This chair offers amazing lumbar support, different arm and textile options. Yes, they don't have referral links like Herman Miller to pay news outlets to say that their chair is the best.
"Custom made and not returnable" for 800 bucks? Thanks but no

I've learned that i would pretty much never purchase something like a chair without trying it first unless they guarantee 30 day free returns 100% money back or something which i do not see .... at least not clearly. Its just something that you can't just assume you like using it by looking at a picture.
