I found I like have a couple of the smaller batteries in my line up. A good portion of the time they do the job at hand for the day. And less weight to carry and handle.

In my mind they have their place.
And while we're at it... Who makes a better pickup, Ford, Chevy, or Dodge?

They also have a daily deal for the DCF787 with a free battery at $99:

Looks like OP has the better deal, though. Two batteries instead of one, plus the case, and I think the DCF840 is also a better driver. Seems like a good deal.

FYI, 1.5ah batteries, makes it a no go for me. I'd require 2x 2ah, so the other deal with 1x 2ah batteries is a pass also

This is the DCF840. Philly Fixed reviewed a bunch of Dewalt impact drivers (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3-KtX6kx2c), including the DCF840, the 850 Atomic, and the new DCF845. He decided the 850 won overall, but it looked to me like the 840 was faster and won for the typical uses of an impact driver.

How's this compare to fathers dayish deals? Looking for a drill and a driver.

Typically the Atomic drill and driver sets with 2 small batteries, bag, and charger goes on sale for $150 at HD. Around Thanksgiving I was able to get that set for $150 plus a free tool (I got the reciprocating saw) on top of that.

I have almost all Ryobi tools. They are great and reliable. One thing of note is that DeWalt has far superior ergonomic. Sadly, Ryobi is restricted due to their battery design.

The post type batteries are easier to pop in. Ryobi may be the last brand still using it! My old Craftsman drill is post-type but new ones aren't. I guess the 12 volt power tools usually are a sort of post-type.
