Just buy from Samsung direct, don't buy from amazon if u are afraid of getting a fake one.
Still impossible to determine if Amazon is co-mingling the inventory sent in by Samsung with that of other 3rd party sellers on Amazon. The 3rd party inventory seems to be where the fakes slip into Amazon's warehouses. Now I'd assume Samsung would spend enough to have their own separate inventory storage at each major regional Amazon warehouse. But you never know and Amazon's not telling us nor is Samsung.

Maybe there is a tool one could run to determine authenticity?

Trying to find a card like this for use as a secondary drive in a laptop, mostly for running games and whatnot. Would this fit the bill? I've checked the page and saw mentioned of Nintendo Switch, but wanted to ask here in case anyone had some experience or insight. I know some MicroSDs are better for specific tasks, so if not this one, please suggest a better option.

MicroSD cards are slow. They aren't meant to be high performance. They are just meant to be small. I wouldn't recommend using them anytime speed is a factor, such as gaming. The Nintendo Switch, for better or worse, was designed with slow storage in mind. So it gets by. But PC games expect that you have a much faster drive installed.

If it has to be as small as possible, then I guess one of those tiny USB flash drives is your only option. If not, then an external USB SSD is the way to go.

Best would be an "M.2 NVMe" drive. If not that, then a "2.5 inch SATA SSD" would still work great. Slickdeals has been flooded with these both kinds of these drives for the past few weeks.

In either case, if you get an internal drive, then you can get an external enclosure to make it work with your laptop. I don't endorse either of these specific products, but here are a pair of examples of what to look for. Enclosure for NVMe and 2.5 inch SATA.

Bought this a few weeks ago for $18.99. Works great is my outdoor Kasa Tapo C320WS for 2k continuous recording. Hasn't been long, but so far works perfectly.

To the person asking about this as a hard drive part - if it is a replacement or augmentation, no. This is essentially the same as a good flash drive (depending on the laptop, this mught be running over USB). But as a backup or secondary storage, sure. So if you have music on there, that reads slow - that works fine - but if you are doing sustained reads/writes, no. I do have a 512GB drive that I got from Samsung and I use it as a secondary drive - but my main drive is an SK Hynix P31 (only PCIe Gen 3 so no need for a P41).
