Serious question: I have a toaster oven with convection....is this air fryer going to be any different?
Nope… the only difference is the air fryer has a cumbersome basket instead of a shelf

I use mine every day. Don't knock it just because you don't know how to use it.

I have a ninja air fryer. The convection toaster oven is like a honda civic and the air fryer is like a ferrari. Both have engines, and one is vastly better.

It's literally one of the most useful appliances of the last 20 years.

Anything it pretends to do, can be done better/faster/easier with the proper kitchen equipment

If you don't know how to cook or have poor equipment it might be an improvement for you
Paly? People that "know how to cook" use air fryers all the GD time. Be elitist all you like.

All this screams is I've never used one in my life because if you did you would never say that lol. Literally changed how I heat everything and reheat everything. Beats a microwave not in time but in quality of food after being in it. 4mins your food can be reheated almost to like when purchased or more crispy and crunchy if desired. A good one like a Bella is worth it especially at these prices. I recommend a 6qt size though especially for more than a two person household.

I appreciate the analogy, but why is the air fryer any different?

Can you provide a link to any that have a stainless steel basket?
They're not rare, they're usually just a bit more expensive. I think it's worth the extra money. None are on sale now afaik on SD. Mine is some Nuwave I got at a goodwill (yeah I scrubbed the hell out of it).

I dunno about 6QT but I found the same brand's 8 QT for $60:

$130 - $70 = $60 so similar sale slash. I might have to jump on this bigger one. 2x size for 2x the cost.

An air fryer has a heating coil 5 inches away from the food and a powerful fan behind it that blasts whatever youre cooking with the heat in a small, concentrated space. Toaster ovens, at least the one i have, have a fan that circulates air around the oven compartment, but not directed at the food. Its the difference of a fan blasting in your face, and a ceiling fan.

I can very easily burn or crisp the surface of chicken, steak and other types of meat in an air fryer, but have never been able to do that in a toaster oven, it just isnt strong enough. The concentrated heat makes a big difference, so much so that i prefer using my air fryer to my grill. The results are very similar and its just much easier to get going.

Note though that not all air fryers are the same. Ive used the gourmia one and its not very good.
