This is more like a screen camera. In short, inside this printer the image you send it from your phones is exposed on Polaroid-type instant film. It spits it out and you watch it develop before your eyes. (shaking is optional). The film cost about one dollar per print.

It's best of both worlds since you can send from your phone to the printer. I often print multiples for friends.

Also the 2 packs of 10 exposures have been on sale for $14.95 on amazon lately. Stock up!

I think I know a lot about the Polaroids, Fujifilm-Instax, and Zink (all competitors) as a photography hobbyist. If we're only looking at the printers (not factoring in the one's with the built-in camera.....because those cameras come with cheap lens that can produce undesirable outcomes), the Instax has the best colors (e.g. more saturation, accuracy, and vibrancy). The Zink stuff looks pretty bad in terms of color reproduction. Have been super interested in this Instax because my Fujifilm X-S10 can print directly to this printer without the need to transfer photos to a phone (which is valuable time if you're doing professional work). I'm thinking of dabbling in wedding photography this summer (professionally, I have only done sports and corporate photography thus far) and I think the guests would be super thrilled if I can print their pictures for them straight from my X-S10 on-the-fly. I feel like this additional "service offering" would be enough to set myself apart from other photographers.

Anyone know what kind of USB charger it uses? USB-C? Micro-USB? Proprietary?

Edit: Nvm, found a review that said micro-usb

Thanks for the info! I hope the print quality is much better than the old Polaroids?

Any idea in the cost per print using the Instax camera vs
This? My kid has been asking for the camera, but this is much smaller and seemingly more flexible.

Looking at Amazon prizing, it appears to be priced around the same. ($1 a print/photo). Of course, one may find sales and it does appear the Insta (none wide format) is more popular.

Of the two, I like the idea of the printer, where one can add filters, stickers, etc on the phone and have instant gratification. But your kid may want the retro feel/look of the camera too.

Thanks OP, bought one as this seems like a better solution than carrying around an entire camera. On a trip can leave this in the hotel and print when you get back if you're with friends, or just leave at home.

Also snagged a case from Amazon for 10 bucks https://a.co/d/hlMJZvl

With the camera, you only get one print per picture you take, right? Have to take it again to get another?

With the printer you can print many copies of the same picture so all your friends can have copy of the same pic.

the instax wide film cost is higher than the mini and square films. A factor to consider before buying this printer.

Correct. This a printer, you send photos from your phone and it prints it.

Other cameras are actual cameras, taking a single exposure with each snap.

Not entirely true. The most recent Fujifilm cameras are more of a hybrid digital camera/printer. You snap the picture, it saves to small onboard storage or sd card. Then you can print from your "library" as many as you want. The modern cameras do more than this printer, but the printer is at a very good price (not to mention, your phone probably has a better camera built in). That, and last I checked, the wide format doesn't have a modern camera.

Oh, also I forgot that you can also print from your phone to the new cameras. So they are just printers that also have a lens.

Honest question, why not just go to Walmart or CVS and use one of their printers? I feel like that would be way cheaper in the end. Is the portability the main appeal here or is the quality of the printing that much better?
