Strange that Bestbuy still has original LS50's.

These are not $1299 anymore though. $999 is the regular price for new original LS50's.

Original LS50's are a design first released in 2013.

The new LS50 Meta version is a better speaker measurably when neutrality is the benchmark, it is notably more money over this $715 price though. Also if you like glossy finishes this is your option as the meta is matte.

Great price. This is often what you see them go for in the used marketplace.

If you're lucky enough there might be some open box Kef R3s for under 650 around you.

Step up from these.

There is no reason for me to change out my svs ultra bookshelf pair but this is tempting. I'm primary home theater so will abstain but smoking deal on insanely good speakers albeit an aging model

Depends if your use is nearfield or not. R3s don't do well in low volume.

Get these and hook them up with the Sonos Amp for the best of both worlds.

I'm using a pair of Q350s and Q650cs with 2 RSL Speedwoofer 10iis. 90% movies and concert disks. A Pioneer VS-LX503 for amplification. Is there any reason to swap these out for the Q350s?
Thanks.

Try and find an open box of R3/R7s from Best Buy.

Open Box R3s are as low as $6xx, R7s are like $8XXea iirc.

Hi, I don't think so.

I really liked the Q350's and they actually measure better than the original LS50's when 'neutrality' is the benchmark. The Q350's also have better high power handling.

I beleive the LS50 is slightly more difficult to drive so it will also depend on your AVR's handling of low impedance zones and difficult electrical phase areas in the speakers electrical anatomy.

I have never directly compared the two sets.
You could do that if you are willing to deal with returning the LS50's if you don't keep them.

Just make sure the speakers are playing at the same actual volume(SPL) and you will need to measure that to ensure it is so. Better yet learn the ups and downs of the few most popular speaker volume matching approaches as actually matching them to the same volume is a bit more complex than one would hope. If one is actually louder it will usually be prefered simply due to that so getting them actually matched in a way that makes sense is paramount or you have nothing but a louder and a quiter speaker playing.

Why are the R3's not suited for low volumes?

Totally different use case. I kind of gave up on separates a while ago and went the Sonos route. To me, the LS50's break up a bit at high volume and would not be the best for HT. They do sound amazing if you have a listening room or something like that. A big part of why I like Sonos is the DSP built in. I don't have to worry about amp pairings or my speakers getting destroyed by my kid turning it up a bit too much. These would be more for a listening room with a small sub for me at least. If I was going back to normal HT I would probably look at some SVS or something that is meant to hammer.

Where intermodulation is concerned, concentric is not great. I wouldn't use these without active crossover.

Maybe it's a personal preference thing, but also my "low volumes" is pretty low as I have an open office and my wife works in the living room.

I'm actually in the midst of upgrading my desktop setup from Q150s.

The R3s have been on my desk for maybe 5 days now. They are definitely way more detailed but they just require more volume to open up. After A/B-ing both, it's amazing to see how muddy the Q150s are, but the R3s just aren't suitable for desktop (for my preferred volume).

I bought this deal to try, and I also found a pair of open box 707 S2s, 1 of them has a blown tweeter and B&W is sending me a tweeter, gets here on Friday. With the limited mono audition, my first impression is that the 707s have 0 mid ranges... and it's wayyyy too treble forward.

I probably need a way better amp as I'm only driving all of these with an Aiyima A07.

Currently the 2.0 is paired with a REL HT1003.
