Google honored the 1 year warranty however, and they sent out a replacement phone. I returned my defective 6a to Google...all should have been well.....except
Xfinity won't let me replace the defective 6a with my replacement 6a and keep the device payment plan going. They said (on the phone and different rep via chat) that if I swap in the replacement 6a I will LOSE my remaining device payment plan credits.
Since the defective 6a is gone, my options are to simply let that line ride out the remaining 14 payment plan credits (for 14 more months) and effectively lose access to that phone number (cannot move the phone number or I will also lose the remaining device payment plan credits).
Or, I can simply swap the SIM and be sure NEVER to confirm with Xfinity that I swapped the SIM into the replacement device (they have an online notice that they have detected I swapped devices and to confirm it). Then hope that all is well for the next 14 months...there is no guarantee.
According to the Xfinity CSR's there is no provision to retain your remaining device payment plan credits should you lose or break your phone during the pendency of the payment credits, even though the line remains active with the number you ported in. If you change the device, and you let them know, you lose the payment plan credits.

If (like me and others) you already have service with XM, especially on the by-the-gig plan - adding a line is just taxes (in my case, around $2 per month); plus the cost of a number ($7 from number barn). Total cost of around $55 (2 per month x 24 months + $7 for the number) to get a "free" phone.
Yes, it's locked to XM; but I can swap numbers to keep the credits, and then use the phone as normal (since I'm on XM anyway). I've picked up 3 phones so far this way; an iPhone SE, iPhone 12 mini and a Pixel 6a.

Your itemized service contract or statement should say, "Xfinity Mobile Discount Eligibility Included." You have 90 days from when you got Internet to add the mobile line.
With this phone contract, Xfinity knows you can't move out, so they don't have to offer a new deal (for broadband) In other words, you will essentially be paying an extra $20-$30 per month for the next renewal of your broadband contract.
Keep in mind : Some of their promotions do give a 2 year broadband contract (an example is the one in this post : https://slickdeals.net/f/16630877-xfinity-internet-customers-get-pixel-7-w-24-mo-xfinity-mobile-signup-port-in-free-new-lines-only?p=16341356
Second : Leverage some of their $200 BYOD promos (plus any Rewards promos that stack) to get back prepaid cards; these promos have been coming about 2 - 3 times a year; I've been able to get back more than what I've paid by using these and the free phone promos.
Third : Even if you are needing to break the mobile service because you need to move out the internet - you may still be gaining. Yes, you'll pay half price after 12 months instead of getting it free - but half price is a lot better than MSRP. Watch out on this in case the phone is heavily discounted elsewhere; XM puts the maximum price as their price for the bill credits, but you might be able to get it cheaper elsewhere. Example - last year XM was pricing the S22 at 799; Google FI had it at 299.
Fourth : You MAY be able to leverage other promos like T-mo's Keep and Switch (along with Costco card promos) to minimize YOUR cost.
Last but not least : If you have a credible way to get an alternative (if FiOS or other internet providers have comparable service at your address) - Comcast is willing to negotiate a lot more than if you don't have an alternative.
I don't think you can activate a Pixel (as of right now) on XM using the eSIM. Maybe someone who has tried can say for sure.
You can try to unlock the phone with the hack that was linked earlier (to be able to use Pixel on Mint)...but that requires some tech know-how....and I also think you'll be stuck on outdated updates and old security patches (6 months+) moving forward...which is less than ideal. (Maybe I'm wrong and you can update after unlocking?) If updating reverses the hack, you gotta make sure it never updates on it's own or you'll lose the unlock status. Plus you gotta make sure it doesn't update when you set the phone up.
I don't have much experience with eSIMs but from what I could tell...they seem like versatile profiles that you can easily add, delete, add, etc. Not sure if you can back them up if you only have one eSIM slot (if that's a thing)...but I think you just create and associate each time with a plan/line which accomplishes using it temporarily. But it won't really matter unless you unlock the phone via the hack or waiting 2 years if you want all the bill credits.
EDIT: Looks like you can have multiple eSIM profiles and it's just that only 1 can be active at a time.
EDIT 2: Looks like the Pixel 7 recently got an update that it can use (2) eSIM profiles at the same time.

The back glass around the camera frame does crack on the edge, but its only cosmetic. Doesn't affect camera at all. But let me say, i'm pretty hard on a phone.
I like my P7..the p6 was too big.
The general guidance on that, is it has to be an unlocked phone sold by Google. Almost all of the carrier models are locked, and cannot ever be unlocked. But maybe Xfinity is the exception to that rule, as they are not the typical carrier.
The Intro unlimited plan with them is $45. Two lines would be $30 each.
Down below you can see they mention you can mix and match. So you can get a intro unlimited plan for $30 as long as you get a second line which would be the by the gig [plan at $15. Basically the price should be identical.
The CS will usually ask you for the IMEI as well as the sim ICCID for BOTH phones; make sure you have these details ready before initiating the chat.
1) Port in new number 123; activate it with the new phone.
2) Watch for 1 - 2 months to make sure that the credits are being accounted; sometimes it shows up in the immediate bill, sometimes it may be delayed by a month (and you get retroactive credit).
3) Once you see that the credit is being given for the new phone against number 123 : get on web chat with their CS (I usually do this on laptop so that I can also "print" the chat for a record.
4) On the web chat : inform the CS that you want to swap phones and sims between existing number 456 and new number 123; that you do not want to lose out on the monthly credits.
5) Both times - I was told this requires their Tech Support to do it; the initial CS will reach out to their advanced team, and a different person then comes on chat.
6) You may need to repeat your request details; then ask them to confirm that the bill credits will continue even after the swap.
7) Take a snapshot or a print of the chat confirmation before initiating the swap.
8) CS will ask for the IMEI / ICCID details of both phones; then you'll need to switch off both for them to do the changeover in their systems. Once done, they will ask you to swap the sim, start up one, then the other.
9) Usually takes about a day; your online account will reflect the change and that the phone is now linked to number 456 instead of 123.
10) Wait for another month; check the bill and make sure that the credit has been given and to number 456.
Once you've confirmed that the credits are now to the OLD number - you can port out the new number 123. I do not recommend terminating it with XM; instead port it out to a different provider and then let it terminate there.
IF the CS initially tells you it is not possible - wait for some time, then chat again with a different agent. Some of the newer agents are not aware of the procedure (or may not want to initiate an escalation to the Tech Support). If you keep getting a "no" answer : ask for escalation to tech support or a supervisor to check.
Make sure that you get the confirmation on the chat AND keep a copy of it for any possible issues later.
