Squiers are not children's guitars. I've had Classic Vibes that are far better than Player series guitars. My Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster is one of the best playing guitars I've ever owned. Chris Buck plays a Squier Classic Vibe Jazzmaster live. And they're not made in Korea. They're made in China.

No difference other than color. Lake placid blue is exclusive to Adorama.
Squier Classic Vibes are widely considered as good or better than MiM Fenders and are holding their value around the $300 range, used.
Fender made these key changes going from the Standard Series (MIM) to the Player Series (MIM) in 2018:
Alnico pickups vs. prior ceramic
different wiring of controls
two screw tremolo bridge vs. prior six screws
22 frets vs. prior 21
satin finish on back of neck vs. prior gloss
better saddles on the bridge
I've been trying to buy a used Fender Player in like-new condition for under $500 for a few years now, and I haven't found one yet--otherwise I'd have snatched it up. Out of the changes, I want the 22 frets and Alnico pickups the most. Lowest price I've seen used recently is about $550 to $600 for all but the ugliest colors. There seems to be a premium on the pau ferro; maple necks seem to sell for less.

I am kicking myself for not buying the clearance priced new Adorama Fender Player Strat in Lake Placid Blue when it hit as low as $479 with no sales tax.... At the time I insisted on a pau ferro neck and passed on the deal not knowing rapid inflation would hit. Oh well, it is what it is, and now $579 is a good deal. I prefer these neutral colors over Lake Placid Blue anyway.

Not saying all Squires are bad or anything and maybe I just got a lemon, just sharing my personal experience. But when I see two reviews pointing out an issue then the guitar I get has that specific issue so much I return the guitar it doesn't look good.
Curious to see other's opinions on the Squier Classic Vibe 50's. I'm considering just getting a replacement.
These are being sold right now at many, many online and brick & mortar stores for the stock price of $849. And that's it. They don't go on sale.
Check Guitar Center right now and you'll see.
So, unless there is something I am unaware of .. factory returns or B-stock or some other mitigating unknown reason ... this is the best deal on a guitar I have ever seen on Slickdeals.
As for the guitar itself, a very knowledgeable guitar business owner was telling me the inside story of the difference between these guitars and the $2000 American Strats. He put it this way:
"Would you like a Stratocaster built by Mexicans in Mexico or a Stratocaster built by Mexicans in California?"
And that's it. That's the $1200 price difference.
And he would certainly know more about it than me .. or anyone who would comment about it on Slickdeals.
The "classic vibes" series .. or Squires ... are peculiar little children's guitars built in Korea.
Not in the same conversation.
I asked a question and got an insult, thanks!
How about a Yamaha Pacifica 612?
I bought myself a Squier affinity last christmas to see if I'd like playing guitar, and I've actually really enjoyed it. The affinity was $150 and even if I gave it away, I'd feel pretty good about spending that $150. It's been a pretty solid little guitar, and honestly I actually like how it plays a little better than the classic vibes I tried at the store a couple months ago when shopping for a guitar amp.
Still, I mentioned it because those have held the title of "budget priced but really nice build quality" for a while, and ProAudioStar pretty regularly has Squier CVs for around $250-350 on sale.
I agree, the fender player is certainly a better deal if you're comparing a CV's $500-ish retail price with the $579 sale price of the fender player. Oh yeah. No doubt there. The argument you make about resale value is legit - if you think you can sell it for $700 used (I doubt it). But you certainly wouldn't lose much.
The question isn't me dissing Fender. I like their gear. But I am trying to familiarize myself with what else is out there.
If you like the on sale colors, I highly recommend picking one of these up (keeping in mind, you may need to spend an additional $50-70 on a setup).
If you're looking for a first guitar and don't want to spent $600, the Squier Classic Vibe deal that's been posted is a great alternative. It's sub $300 and probably 80% the guitar this is.
I do agree on lake placid blue! I mentioned that in an earlier post.. I'd be more inclined to buy this if it was available in blue! I love those translucent blue finishes as well, but I just can't get behind things like brown and brown sunburst and brown brown.. and black. and white. yawn.
Honestly when/if I get around to finally buying a nice guitar I'm not sure if it'll be something like this, a yamaha 612, a prs se, or an EVH with the stripes lol. They look cute. >>

Yeah, that Lake Placid Blue...I adore it. I stare at the thing and just love that it's mine. I wouldn't choose any color Fender over it and find it so odd that a store like Adorama has it over Guitar Center or Sweetwater.
