Wondering if this machine effectively support a 3-monitor setup with 4K resolution at 60hz for Thingorswim?
Connects 5 external monitors!

M1 Ultra chip supports up to four external displays with up to 6K resolution at 60Hz over USB-C, along with a fifth display with up to 4K resolution at 60Hz over HDMI, according to Apple.

This should not be more than 1k, some apple products carry a heavy premium.

This a good price, but M3 is surely coming, with lots of improvements. I'd wait for M3 Max and see how it compares for $500 more. And if it isn't worth it, the M1 Max version will surely be still at least this price if not blown out for even less by then.
M3 Max is likely a year away. M3 first. 3 nanometer chip technology is the breakthrough, but it isn't ready for mass production. Plus, it will come at a cost, as chip failures are likely to be higher until this gets more mature.

I run two of these.

One for music and one for video. Smooth as butter.

Best computer purchases ever. The expense comes when you need a TB3 hub and fast external drives, but hurray for never having to open up a computer again.

Dell UltraSharp U2723QE is nice unless you set on the Apple display.
I have two with the calibration done. None were off by very much.

I have the M2 Pro version, and this is a good deal.

For contrast, M2 Pro (base) comes with:
* 16GB vs 32GB RAM
* same number of CPU cores (but should be 10-20% faster)
* 16 instead of 24 core GPU
* 200GB/s vs 400GB/s memory bandwidth
* Same ports, except HDMI2.1

So, basically it is a $200 upgrade for several more high end features, and a few tradeoffs. If you are in the market for a capable Mac system for the long run I would say: go for it (though soldered ram/ssd makes me a bit uneasy).
There is no M2 pro version of this computer - the studio. I gather you have a mac mini. Maybe a slight advantage on some CPU tasks, but much less GPU. Also, the studio has More USB-C ports including front, which has SD card reader. M2 pro mini is nice when upgraded, to match RAM etc but way overpriced.

Premium tech; never charging for the OS.

PC/Linux/Unix/Andrioid user for a long time for work, but all Apple for music, video and phone in the last ~5 years. Airdrop and AirPlay...can't do with out it now.

Discover cardholders also get 5% back on warehouse purchases until June, this would basically max out the cash back for this quarter lol.
Please don't do this for anything expensive. Discover's card protections are among the worst in the industry, and giving up an extra year of warranty to save a few bucks is just a very raw deal.

I had this and it's a great machine. Recently sold it for MBP base M1 Pro 16" though as I needed something more mobile. If your use cases is LR, PS and some video editing as a hobby then even the M1 MBPs are pretty good. Of course Studio is still be faster but you won't notice that much difference. This price point is really good though and it's a very capable machine.

God damn, this is a great deal. I would be ALL OVER this if I didn't buy my Mac Mini M2 Pro for $1200 + $100 tax = $1300 in Apple Edu store. 16GB / 512GB.

$1650 taxed for this is a stellar deal.

after two failed attempts to buy this on ebay fake/fraud listings, i gave in. few bucks more perhaps but costco gives 90 days. thanks op.

questions:
1. how many fewer years of support will this model get compared to a m2 pro mini? can someone shed light on that and what $$ that is worth?
2. Would it be gross underutilization if i just use 2 27" FHD monitors with this? am not looking forward to having to spend more.
TIA
