The new Seiko 5's like this one (distinguishable by the stylized "five" logo beneath the Seiko brand name that almost looks like Superman's "S" symbol - versus the older generation Seiko 5s with a more conventional-looking "5" framed by a shield) have the higher-spec 4R36 movement, which both hacks and handwinds.

The older Seiko 5's like my Seiko SNK805 had the 7S26 movement. It was a very basic automatic watch movement that neither hacks nor handwinds. In its defense, I've always found it to be accurate and reliable.
In addition to the better movement, this newer Seiko 5 has 100 meters water resistance, versus the 30 meters for my SNK805. My older Seiko also has a 37mm case diameter, which many men found too small. This newer Seiko has a 40mm case. While 3mm might not sound like much, it appears much larger on the wrist, and is much more in keeping with current mens watch sizing trends.
I got my SNK805 on sale for $40 about 6 years ago (due to a posted Slickdeal, of course ). But those days are long gone. A more typical price back then was $60 - $80. Whether the better movement, larger case and higher water resistance rating of this newer Seiko 5 is worth it, is up to the individual shopper. FWIW, I think it is.

I expect more green face watches to be discounted now through Black Friday. Green was the new black last year. It's out of vogue now.
Yeah. They've since made them nicer and more expensive. 3x nicer? Idk… there's a lot more competition at $150.
I also bought a SNK for like $40 10 years ago as my first auto.
