Only drawback to this machine it is 100% completely manual. After fourth thing the milk you need to go ahead and run water through the steamer into the tray to cool off the heating elements inside the device. It's a big old thing.

Not recommended for the faint at heart
It's definitely a labor of love lol. I even manually grind the beans eacg morning. Very hands on for sure. Will eventually take the plunge and get the eureka mignon grinder and the ECM Synchronika espresso machine. Baby steps!
Imho, the strength of this machine is it's customizability, i say this as an owner.
Mods, such as Pid, ims basket, opv spring, are what make this machine great. Not to mention the holy grail of gaggia mods, the arduino gaggiuino.
If this fails to intrigue you, you're not looking for a new hobby, a great alternative is a machine from Breville. Breville is highly regarded among reviewers and consumers, even the coffee nerds begrudgingly acknowledge the Brevilles. You can't modify a Breville, they are too complex, but out of the box will give more satisfaction with a much less significant learning curve.
Well, if folks can spend a bit more and do not yet have a machine or grinder, they should look into the breville touch impress for $1499. Just released last month, it allows nearly super automatic capability, along with 100% manual capability as an option.
Single boiler (thermojet), anyone in the household can you use it while having zero espresso making skills whatsoever.
Has upgraded grinder with baratza M2 burrs.
If anyone has seen the Oracle touch, this is essentially the same thing except that this barista touch impress has upgraded LCD panel and electronics, manual tamp lever, and thermojet versus dual boiler.
Looks like breville is refreshing their devices.

That's great advice. To consider also the Bambino Plus (499). I have the breville grinder and it grinds fine enough to choke the gaggia. I read a comparison of several grinders that found the breville grinder to have a consistent grind. The site seemed legit - but with reviews you never really know (https://www.techgearlab.com/revie...rinder-pro).

The smart green to pro gets good reviews. The only complaint I've ever heard about it is that it has a hard time with light roast beans. But pretty much all of the grinders in that price range have trouble with light roasted beans.
Edit:
I was really close to getting the Bambino Plus and a small going to pro... It's just waiting for the Bambino Plus to go on sale again.
But then after speaking to my wife on it, she was looking for something that was a little more automated. I even looked at the gaggia classic pro. But at the end of the day, we needed more automation.

Yes. It's quite a lot of work trying to pull reliable shots. I've heard good things about the Delonghi super auto machines, and I've used them quite extensively at work and socially. There's a guy on youtube (Hoffman) who is some sort of celebrity in the coffee snob world - he did a quick review of several popular super automatic machines https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZEM1cC86t8&t=514s[youtube.com]
This is not a deal, but I bought the new EVO (Silver only) and this is a better deal $399. I bought before they reduced the price and I'm trying to get a pricematch.
This is the newer GCP Evo with a number of upgrades and it's already set for 9 bar without the spring mod. It's the 2023 model/update.
I bought a Breville Infuser but decided to return it for this. The pros really are..
- 58mm portafilter so if you ever decide to upgrade, you have the accessories
- option to mod but you don't need to from what I'm told...for pulling good shots
- easier to service yourself if needed
- solid build, should last longer
This was on sale at the time of posting for $399 along with their Amazon store. I also ended up buying the eureka mignon specialita grinder. My work load got easier each moring lol. Hand grinding is certainly a chore!

In Silver $449 - $50 (GAGGIA is the coupon code). Original price was $499 but I think it's a July temp price reduction/sale.
