Why would anyone buy extra milk just for it to go bad on the reg so they can avoid paying $30 for a shredder that (hopefully) last them years lol

As a medical professional who works from home, I need to shred my patient notes to protect their privacy. I hope your medical providers treat your privacy the same and not throwing expired milk on it when they get rid of paper trail.

You're the type of person who is "kind of a big deal", but also keeps an expired half-gallon of milk in their fridge?

For someone who thinks they are so important they have to shred whatever documents are mailed to them from the 1980s. I'm kind of a big deal and I just throw my stuff away. Do you think people are still digging in the garbage to steal your identity, Mr. BigTime? If it's an issue, just dump a half gallon of expired milk in your document trash bag. Whoever digs through that deserves the $31.72 in your bank account.

We all have more than enough to worry about in life (like where to score our next great deal). I sleep better at night knowing that the personal information in my trash has been shredded, and the cost of this device is well worth it.

Not to mention that you can use it as padding for shipping out those eBay sales. Why would you not buy a shredder?

As a fellow medical professional who works from home you should retain your patient notes for 6 years so you don't break federal HIPPA laws; which it sounds like you are doing. I have a service pick up my work related documents and they accept the liability for their disposal, you know. . . like a professional. If you don't want to use milk to dispose of your oddly specific and important documents (not really sure why you are prejudiced against milk, but whatever), I will also accept old shrimp shells. Do you have something against shrimp also?

I have this shredder. It's good even if you need it for a one-off. It did successfully shred 500 lbs of papers last summer, but it overheats often. Even though it can handle staples you can't feed more than about 8 sheets in it at a time without making the motor work too hard.
Took me 3 days to shred about 20 bankers boxes. This little guy *almost* kicked the bucket but I'm happy it got the job done. I was so frustrated by the end of the paper pile I had that I dumped the last 50 lbs at fed ex for shredding for $1/lb.

All that said this shredder saved me lots of money.

Story Time.

I have a short little story, anecdote if you will, about the folly of a paper shredder. After hearing it, you may think you have wrapped your mind around the totality of my tale, but you have not. You will never understand the depths, layers and intricacies of it. Never. Never ever.. . . . You will commit yourself to immediately forgetting it, but you will always remember. Maybe not today but 6 months from now you will be reminded of this story and you will slowly try to unwrap it. You will slide in my DMs with questions. Questions I cannot and will not answer. You have been warned.

About a year ago I watched my mother shred a document from her bank telling her that all of her personal information had been stolen, including her social security number.
haha mate. your story telling is next level SmilieSmilie

You sound the MOST dangerous!!! 6 years of documents that are easier for anyone to get to. Documents shoule be scaned and saved to some encrypted office/home/cloud server that is actually safe and then shredded and properly disposed of.

Most lawyers and doctors with an home office are the reason personal information gets out. Rarely are home offices locked and off limits to others. Rarely computers and networks separate from personal usage and others... Don't even start on the other medical profession... As an IT guy, I am sure i would find fault with what BOTH of your are doing in terms of HIPPA laws... There is never enough you can do to priotech others data... I know people give it away for free, but still... As gate keepers, we should take the responsiblity seriously.

I bought mine at a liquidation store (sells amazon returns) for $5- the front plastic piece did have a crack across it but since I knew I would have it on the floor and wouldn't be looking at it too often I figured I would forgive the crack. The shredder works great, I did overheat it some once when I was feeding it a letter that had one of those credit cards in it so I am a bit more careful with how much I feed it at once/give it breaks but gets the job done.
