sounds you can have this only once your entire life. as long as you had a discover savings before, you are DSQ'ed.

Not only that, I signed up for an account less than two weeks before the promo began, got a mailer for the promo, but when I contacted customer service they refused to allow me to qualify. I signed up for Discover over other options because I thought they tried to do things right by their customer, and ended up teased and disappointed.

I did the same but it was less than 2-3 days after signing up. It was $450 for $35K deposit. They eventually honored it after around 4-5 weeks.

I had an account years ago and tried to sign up for this. Lifetime single promotion is a weird business approach.

I signed up 3 days ago, Friday. I have not made deposits yet. Will customer service honor this promo?

I opened the account by applying the code. And, about a couple of weeks after I deposited the money, I received the bonus.

I then went ahead and closed the account, as I ended up moving the money to a different HY savings account that pays ~4.75%.

Where do you usually move for 4.75%, without creating CD. I do keep in RBH, without investing, my other investment are there too.

Short term treasury bonds.
CDs are stupid now.
Find an alternative to your cash but not stocks or real estate.

Their saving is around 3.75%. I have been with them for over a decade. Never more than 30 sec hold. Very courteous.

Indeed. Even Capital One (of which I'm not the biggest fan) allows you to get the bonus again after 4 years or so of not having that type of account.

I have a feeling they are doing this because current customers are moving their money out of Discover into other higher rates online savings. I being one of them -- shifted a chunk of my money to Citi Accelerated Savings and others.

If they can't compete on the interest rate, they have to do these promos, which is great for new people, but doesn't benefit current account holders.
