Not to be that guy, but I would've figure with Google docs and everything else that it has for free. I would believe no one is really buying Microsoft office. I'm sure there is a reason on why but I'm coming up with a blank for a reason.
Maybe for bare bones stuff, but you miss the feature rich stuff in office. I'll give you an example, in Google slides you can't edit the time for transition inbetween slides, everything has to be the same transition time, so if you have an auto slide transition (which a lot do for digital signage) it all has the same timing, even if it's a paragraph on the slide or a sentence. Also you're really limited with file inserts, group editing/auditing, graphic design, and more. Id imagine the same goes for word, and doubly so for excel. Excel has so many features that people go super deep into.

I used to work for a certain very large software company and like someone here said just because you obtained a key doesn't mean you have the right to use the software. A software key is just like a key to your house. If someone found your house key on the street do they have the right to open your door and enter your house? What if they bought the key for two dollars from the homeless guy down the street?
Of course for some people it may be more important to save a few bucks but do it at your own risk and don't tell other people it is harmless. Using Napster was harmless until suddenly the record companies started suing users for millions.
If i sold a few billion copies of my housekey for massive profit and someone resold a couple copies they made themselves, might not be worth it to me to care

Someone contacted the seller asking how it could be so cheep.

"Microsoft was doing inventory and realized they'd made too many keys and they were overflowing the warehouse. Rather than pay inventory tax on them, the boss said to slash prices and move then out. Microsoft's loss is your gain."

So totally legit.

It will work. I would not be bragging about it to everyone. There is always one person who thinks it is there job to screw others. Poor MS is not going to go broke anytime soon.
Me before owning Microsoft Stock:
Yeah! MS has gazillions of dollars! Let's screw Microsoft!!!

Me after owning Microsoft Stock:
Dudes! Be honest! Pay for your license! Imma report your theft!

Let's say office is priced at $300.

Let's say Microsoft wants to spend 1 staff time to hunt down the ip address of the thief associated with the gray market Office.
Once that's done, submit a request to the isp for the owner.
Then.... Somehow identify the person using the office (might not be the owner of the internet account). Might even need to use a Microsoft account on windows on the pc laptop running the office.

Now what?
Not a criminal case (murder etc), so they'll have to file a lawsuit. Small claims given the tiny amount of loss $300. Maybe bigger if they can think of other ways to claim more.

If they tried the police raid route, problem is Microsoft turned on Bitlocker by default - so user can simply refuse to give up his password and no way to prove that laptop is running office due to the encryption.

(And if they have a backdoor, they certainly do not want to reveal this in court.)

Given that they've already gotten their $$$ from the corporate license, it's not worth paying the legal staff the hourly salary to chase after the small fry.

...

Now, what is odd is if one isn't going to pay Microsoft their legal stated selling price for their products, why pay a 3rd party any money at all?

There are ways around the keys....
This.

Most sensible comment on this massive thread. Thank you for spelling it out for all the sheep.

Only small point of disagreement is that I'm personally ignorant of the ways to get around the keys, and for a few bucks and the extra minute to get a virtual card number to remain secure, totally worth it to me to grab a code here and be done with it.

For everyone else with their nose stuck up in the air... Go pay your hundreds of dollars to huge corporations, obey the speed limit and follow all the rules, and when the powers that be serve you a load of whatever bullpuckey they want to feed you, be sure to finish your plate.

I am using LibreOffice for some time now for Word and Excel analogs

free, works with M$ document formats. A little bit of a learning curve.

thank you. same here, hopefully a few here will take advantage of this and avoid the 'deal'.

been using open source software for years, no problems and life time license all the time. of course this is the honest way and God will bless you for taking the high road. the road is narrow that leads to eternal life. hmmmm

It's legal because the keys are purchased with gift cards bought illegally.

Get it?

Account could be banned at some point, but it's rare.

Activation Details
To activate your Microsoft Office 2021 Professional Plus product key, you must follow these steps:

Download Microsoft Office 2021 Professional Plus from the official online site.
Redeem the code after you install it.
Sounds easy enough, but I've bought some of these off of eBay before and it's more cumbersome than that. Most of the time, you have to use the call-in method. If it's not a valid serial number, it won't activate (obviously). The other unfortunate truth is that many of these aren't legit even if they initially activate, but you may not find out for a while until one day a pop-up, like the one in the attached image from my computer, shows up on your screen. That one showed up maybe two years after I activated the key (not from this vendor). That's a problem here, since this site only offers a 60-day refund. I'm not saying don't get this deal - $6 is still cheaper than one month of Office 365 -- and there's some comfort in the fact that it's a website that probably won't immediately close shop after it takes your money, unlike the overseas eBay sellers who sell these keys. But just be aware of what you may encounter.

My .02 is that MS wants market share and user data. They allow these sketchy deals for their products like this and the gamepass one and using non activated windows to get price discrimination customers who don't mind jumping through some sketchy hoops. If it was too easy they would lose full price paying customers

I am using a Microsoft Office school account. Any idea how I can switch it to the new license key without having to reinstall Outlook?

Thanks

Imo buying office licenses are sketchy. The last time when I brought a legit Microsoft license was at 2017 when I brought office 2016 for $10 thru my company. Maybe I will try this out just for kicks

Windows 10/11 license are easy to get. Once the license is married to your mobo you never have to activate it again. Search for massgravel and you can activate for free.

Been down this road before. Wind up having to dispute charges on the CC.
