Bought one at the store yesterday and it turned out to be counterfeit. The case was still AirPod 1gen and using lightning port when the box itself state it shouldn't be. It was a sealed box too. After looking into the box it was clear that it seem more and more fake as the wires didn't even feel like the real one. I had to complain to the general manager today that fakes are being sold here. They said they get it from Apple Store. Well whatever is happening during stocking, might have been swapped. Very frustrating when it was a gift for my wife and to find out it was fake was disheartening. I was able to return it but now I'm still out of a gift for my wife.

Really how could that happen? I am worried of the one i bought in store and still sealed tight.

Sorry for the late reply. I have no clue and they seem to be clueless too. I ended up buying it off amazon. One thing I noticed is that the box did not have the serial number sticker but instead the serial number is printed on the box. It won't make sense since the serial number will be different for each one.
