Depends on the state/City you live
Mine are only $5. Is there a state that really charges $15? Must be a tree hugger state.

Question for the community, I'm looking to cancel my landline service (and port my phone number) to a VOIP services. Right now OOMA's hardware is looking the best (even if it's obsolete in a year).

Are there any other VOIP services that you can recommend? I already have google voice as my spam/ solicitors phone number....so that's already used. Thanks
I like Obihai/Polycom. Through google voice it is free in US and Canada. If you need the emergency 911 added that is extra ( Callcentric charges 1.50 for initial setup and 1.50/month fee). My first Obihai lasted 3 years and I keep a spare because most of my calls are at home.

I received my Ooma set and it's up and running. The longest part of the set up was picking a new number. Also, there was a $50 pre-paid balance. Not sure where from but makes this deal slicker.

Last... I should have read up a little more, but there's a $30 referral credit for both new customers and the referee. So ask your friends and family for a referral link.

Yes, if one didn't have an original HUB, legitimate 911 charges and local / federal taxes and fees do add up. While I'm not overall concerned with OOMA continuing to operate as a company OVERALL, I'm more concerned now than ever that their legacy OOMA TELO and other POTS line hardware will be going away soon, so I wouldn't count on these devices being supported for a long time, probably safely 18-30 months..
Still using my original HUM for the past 14 years. I guess the $149.99 I paid at Costco was worth it.

No VPN, Just right into the ethernet port of the ISP's modem in that country. Has worked 100% for over a decade now.

The box itself establishes a VPN connection to OOMA's servers so it doesn't matter the source of internet as long as it's a reliable connection.
