These Celerons have been superceded by the Intel N95 and N100 which are about 25% faster and don't cost much more. Look up the Beelink S12 as one example. Also, it's better to buy from Amazon because of their easy returns.

This machine is about equivalent of a 12 year old machine. The cpu rating is 4000, I would pick up a used machine with a rating of 15000.

Can these playback 4k TV in a HTPC role? Play Youtube 1080 at 2x speed?
Running what OS? HTPC is unfortunately dead.

Get an apple tv, or for $20 the new Walmart streaming android TV box.

You'll have a remote and tv friendly usage.

Conveniently left off the word "Celeron" from the processor description. I don't know about you guys, but when I see Celeron, I avoid at all cost.
It totally depends on what you want to use the computer for. I'm using an $80 Acer refurb celeron box as a Plex server and it's been fantastic. Sips power and does everything I need for Plex.

Thank you for walking me off the ledge of convincing myself I needed another one of these to mount behind the seldom-used LCD near our kitchen to stream live sports from questionable sources.
Should be fine for live sports streaming on web.

[Corrected] Yes. I could handle transcoding a couple of streams.

Can you provide a link or some way to learn about cpu ratings?

I have used CPUs with this benchscore previously with windows 10 and found the OS struggles. However those builds did not have SSDs. Does that make a huge difference in the bottlenecking? (previously according to the task manager the CPU was the bottleneck on those older builds)

The S12 ….. The n95/100 is a quad core with 6mb cache

Should be able to handle Win10/11 perfectly fine with an NVMe drive

Probably faster than 60% of the workstations at my work Lol

Yes, for local use only though. Transcoding for Internet access would not be good.
You can do a couple transcodes with this. I'm not sure why you're indicating that you can't.

any idea if SSD is replace-able?
It would be hot deal if it is.
It is replaceable. Just be sure to get the correct length and key. I have this and a few other mini PCs, and there were some odd SSDs in some. I don't recall which this has.

The biggest surprise to me was that these come with Windows 11 Pro. That alone costs as much as the entire device, so I have to question the legality.

Is the cpu on this better than say a i5-8400T?

Because those dell SFF refurbished machines are abiut the same size and price.

Makes a huge difference. An SSD took one of my old Elitebooks out to a 9 year usable life (but lots of RAM helped, too). Even my rPi4 seems snappy with an SSD in light usage scenarios.
