I may be wrong, but HDR mode usually lowers brightness. I'd do research on HDR for this particular laptop, but honestly haven't seen many gaming monitors and panels that do a great job with it.

ROG laptops are of good quality, but Legions are considered top tier when it comes to quality and value. Think you would be hard pressed to find a better laptop than the pro without spending significantly more money. I have last year's Legion Pro and love it.

So, is this better specs than the previous Microcenter deal at $1499?

I have only done higher end gaming laptops for the past decade and last years AMD Legion 5 Pro is by far the best laptop I have ever owned. I know this one will likely run a bit warmed and have worse battery life because of the I7, but from a build quality and screen perspective it's hard to beat the Legion series at this price point.

I've had this in my cart for a week along with the 4TB Crucial M.2 SSD for extra storage. Would be the absolute perfect creator laptop configuration (with ability to game some) at a very good price. Would've jumped on this right away if I didn't have 3 kids in college this fall. Still thinking about throwing caution to the wind and paying this over 12 months with my Payboo card.

I'm afraid to buy one with vid card having only 8 gig of vram. If it were 12 or 16, I would bite.

Max nits for single pixels vs max for an extended area. Don't trust any of the published numbers anyway. Even 500 is not true HDR.

I returned this exact laptop twice due to insane thermal throttling.

I have this Lenovo computer and am buying another one. For me, the brightness (500 nits) is AWESOME. It's so crisp and beautiful!

I've been out of the pc/laptop game for a while now ( still rocking an i7-6700k)
My son is going to college this year but he's also a gamer.
Can I buy an external drive and put all his games on that and he can pull from that at home while using this for college while he's away?
He's not cutting edge gaming but he wants a nice experience, will this fit the bill?
TIA
