I agree, my local Costco is notorious that even if you're not a member for 18 months, they said my info is still exists in their computer and refused to honor any discounted membership and also once said I can't join a family member living in the same address because my relatives last name is different from mine. My local Costco enforces their own crazy rules and I told them to kiss my back and went to local Sam's which is very friendly and also as a premier member get to enjoy unlimited order online and have curbside pickup without going to the club, which is really useful during winter months.
Has anyone ever had a recently expired Costco membership and then moved to a new state (new driver's license) and then sign up for new membership with a promo?

Unlike sam's, Costco registers your driver licence. You can't swap emails and credit cards to dodge the 18 month new customer requirement.
Wow. So, if you want to become a Costco member, not only are you selling costco your face, you're also increasing your risk of identity theft since they're registering your drivers license, and their systems (like pretty much any corporate or government computer system) can be hacked. I don't allow my drivers license to be swiped or scanned by any business (including medical and dental offices).
Ugh, I dont want to be a Debbie Downer, but Costco is starting to lose their glamor. I didn't renew my membership back in November and have sense been occasionally using my in-laws membership.
They are getting very stingy on the return policy, the cloths are all XL and larger (there medium is more like an XL), there food is such large portion sizes, and its really not as good as it once was.
I know some LOVE the Costco thing, but its just not like it use to be. I find amazon prime to be move value to me these days.
I love Costco but sometimes, man, they need to give customers a break. My boyfriend has a card and we live together, he didn't have time to go with me and add me to get the 2nd card yet but I borrowed the card one time to go buy some household stuff for us. I went to self checkout and with a CARTFUL of items but the guy turned me away saying sorry you can't use someone else's card and we can revoke this membership if you break this rule. Like dude, what a power trip. lol I had to leave the cart there

Thanks OP. I never had an account with Costco. I have been sharing with my friend. During last couple of visits, they checked my DL and did not let me checkout as the names were not matching. Never had this problem before. I think this deal works out pretty well. Hoping there are no issues with $30 gift card.

I mean if you had your own membership card you scan yourself. If you have a gift card they need to scan you in. So what's the point of a membership if you can keep buying gift cards lol?

Each person gets their own card regardless if they share the same account. The cards all say "non-transferable" on the bottom front. Think of it like a gym membership - they wouldn't let you share the card with other people. Costco makes most of their money off of memberships and not products sold. Therefore they don't want people to share cards. Sometimes if they are nice they can check to see if you are on the same account and give an exception to use the card - but imagine doing this for every person. Lines would be even longer.

Unfortunately my local Costco was very strict on this, so no go for sure.

Only place that doesn't is the gas station.
