Bought it online in September from Metro and activated their SIM. After 1st month SIM-unlocked it using Firewall app to block device setup to connect (NetGuard). Later removed NetGuard and disabled Device Setup permissions according to XDA.
Recently restored Device Setup permissions and happy to report that as 180 days has passed already the Pixel unlocked itself.
- no special actions needed for 180 days unlock
- was not even in the US at the time of unlock and using non-US SIM
- OEM unlock is now NOT greyed-out in developer options
