since you have this model could you do me a huge favor and look inside your washer and tell me whether the stainless steel drum has stainless steel lifters or plastic ones?
Mine has plastic lifters, which is not what the Costco and LG product pages say it should have. It should have stainless lifters. My model# matches WM4080HWA, so I didn't get the wrong model.
Before I go through the hassle of exchanging it and getting a replacement with plastic lifters again, I was hoping you could confirm which type yours has.
Thanks!

The Costco product page shows it as well, along with a description just like the LG page, "Unlike porcelain and plastic, stainless steel tub and lifters avoid chips that snag on and ruin clothing.", with pics. You just have to dig a little deep on the Costco page to find it.
From my research, there's a bunch of "new" tagged top loader models on the LG site that have been released over the past few months and all of them from series 4080 on up now have the stainless lifters like the higher end models have had. I've found some reviews of the plastic lifter models stating that their clothes were damaged and wore out in a short period of time. I didn't find any reports of this in the stainless lifter models. Idk, maybe that's why LG is moving the metal lifters to the mid-tier models now. Based on the LG laundry tower model I found on display at Costco, the metal lifters are shorter and feel smoother than the plastic ones, so maybe they're easier on clothing.
Also, I thought the metal lifters were molded into the stainless steel drum but they're actually attached to it with a thin plastic spacer. LG claims that the metal lifters trap less bacteria than the plastic lifters but there is still some plastic and crevices with the metal lifters too. I guess that's why they say "less" bacteria is trapped.
Interestingly, I contacted LG support over Twitter and got my issue escalated to their "Presidential Liaision Team"
Ultimately, because of the possible clothing damage, bacteria prevention to a lesser extent, and the fact that I'm a stickler for getting exactly what was advertised and what I paid for, I'll be returning this set. That's me though, it might be a non-issue overall for anyone else.
I actually ordered the washer/dryer set that includes the WM6500HWA [costco.com] washer from Costco last night before the price increased from $1,699 to $1,799. Added an LG 6 cu. ft. mini fridge to the order to bring it over $2000 for $300 off, making the fridge $100.
The WM6500HWA washer is only .5 cu. ft. larger but it's 3" deeper, so it'll be an even tighter fit in my laundry room than the 4.5 cu. ft. one, but I can probably get it closer to the wall using 90 degree washer hoses. Washer/dryer upgrades include LED drum lights, a stainless steel dryer drum vs aluminum, and a minimalistic digital control set with AI.
Forgive me for the long winded post but I obviously fell down the research rabbit hole here

So 4.5 washer drums with metal lifters do exist. Why the "new" WM4080 model doesn't have it when both the Costco and LG product pages say it does is a mystery.
I'm not sure whether I'll get to keep that credit AND get a full refund when I return my 4080 set. The $200 would help compensate for the $100 extra I had to spend on the replacement 6500 model and the fact that I'll have been without a washer/dryer for 2 weeks by the time it's delivered.
Definitely update your post when you get the replacement 4080 washer as to whether it has metal lifters or plastic ones.

My 6500 was delivered today and it has metal lifters. I'm thankful this saga is over.
