How is the griddle comparing to regular grill? I'm having a hard to choose the pellet smoker, a high end grill e.g. webber or a griddle for an upgrade after my 4 burner grill ignition failed to work, and suddenly found out there are more choices than a traditional grill.

It definitely has different usages. I use my griddle for things like fried rice, vegetable stirfry, noodles, shrimp, pancakes and bacon, etc. Basically a large outdoor frying pan.
Regular grill does a much better job cooking things like burgers, chicken, steak. You can make these on griddle too, but often it turns out overcooked, dry, and crispy. Maybe just my lack of skills though. Anyways, I wouldn't consider a griddle a replacement for a regular grill.

I would get a weber grill from the Genesis line, they also just released a griddle top for their grills. So quality grill, with a griddle top to match. Expensive unless caught on sale. But it will last a lot longer.

A hot metal surface like a griddle is the better way to cook steaks and burgers. I used to enter BBQ contests, for years and am big into the scene. It's actually a shock to many

You can get $600 or $700 Weber, and do everything ok, but if I were you, I would grab an inexpensive flat top like this one and spend the rest of the money on a pellet grill. You will have way more functionality and options for the same price.
I just bought one and it worked great so far. I have cooked on it one time. I don't think you will be disappointed in the Royal Gourmet vs Blackstone for the price.

The griddle tops are absolute trash unfortunately. I have a Weber with one, they're impossible to clean well and maintain seasoning. The grease runoff can't handle any real amount of fat and it goes everywhere even when your grill is pitched at the right angle. I threw mine away the day after I got my blackstone.

If you have the space and can afford it I personally recommend having a standard propane grill and a pellet smoker.
I love my pellet smoker for the flavor but it really doesn't produce enough direct heat to get a good sear on anything in my experience.
I've never had a flat top grill like this, but for the sake of flexibility I'd probably get a standard propane grill from your brand of choice then get a griddle insert that you can take in and out. Seems like you'd get the best of both worlds that way without having to have 3 separate grills.
Without neglecting a good charcoal grill as an option. I like them, but it never seems to be worth the time/hassle/mess of dealing with it. That's going to vary from person to person. I like that both my pellet and propane grills turn on with the flip of a switch and a turn of a knob with almost no clean up required.
