I thought this was a great deal for a basic bass at $170.
I saw no finish issues on mine. Solid bass for the coin.
Few knocks: It's got some pretty serious neck dive that took some time to get used to. Stock strings were trash. Paint on it is matte and pretty thin. It's not a thick, glossy look like you find on most guitars, but I really like it. Tortoiseshell on the pick guard looks printed on and not a real acetate tortoiseshell, but you'd never know that looking at it from further than a foot.
