Hey everyone, I've found that there seem to be a lot of discussions around policies of various platforms in this group. Some of the policies can be rather confusing and difficult to put into practice though. So if anyone has questions or trouble understanding Amazon's return policies, feel free to post them here. We can all share our experiences to clarify any confusion and help each other out.

AMAZON Returns Policies

Items shipped from Amazon.com, including Amazon Warehouse, can be returned within 30 days of delivery, with some exceptions:
  • For information about products that can't be returned, see Items that Can't be Returned.
  • To determine if a product sold by Amazon.com has a longer return timeline, locate the product type below. If the product type isn't listed or doesn't state another returns time frame, our standard 30-day return policy applies.
  • While most sellers offer a returns policy equivalent to Amazon's, some seller returns policies may vary. If the seller's listing is eligible for Amazon Prime, it will be subject to the same return policies as items fulfilled by Amazon.com that are outlined on this page. For more information about returning to third-party sellers, see Returns to Third-Party Sellers.
  • For products purchased from the Amazon Global Store, see Amazon Global Store Returns.
  • For more information on refund timing and amounts (including partial refunds and restocking fees), see Refunds.
  • If you have returned an item to Amazon by mistake or included something not intended for Amazon in a return, see Mistaken Returns.



1.Items that You Can't Return



Amazon Bulk Liquidations Store
  • Items purchased through Amazon Bulk Liquidations Store are final sale and not returnable.
Devices
  • Computer laptops, desktops, and Kindles more than 30 days after delivery.
Digital
  • Downloadable software products
  • Open software
  • Online subscriptions after you accessed them.
Cards
  • Gift cards (except as required by law)
  • Prepaid game cards (World of Warcraft, Xbox 360 Live, Wii Points, etc.).
Hazardous Material
  • Items classified as hazardous materials or that use flammable liquids or gases.
Note: Contact the manufacturer directly for service, Warranty, return, and refund information.
Others
  • Any product missing the serial number or UPC
  • Grocery products
  • Items with special shipping restrictions
  • Live insects
  • Some jewelry orders
  • Some health and personal care orders.
  • Customized products
Damaged Items
Nonreturnable items that arrived damaged or defective are eligible for a refund or replacement.










2.Returns to Third-Party Sellers


When you order from a seller that fulfills and ships its own inventory (also called a third-party seller), your return is sent back to the seller instead of Amazon.com.
Third-party sellers adhere to the Amazon.com policies that are outlined in About Our Returns Policies [amazon.com].
For information about submitting a return request, seeReturn Items You Ordered [amazon.com].
Third-party sellers must offer one of these methods for your return:
  • Provide a return address within the United States
  • A prepaid return label
  • A full refund without requesting the item be returned.
If a third-party seller does not offer these methods to return your items, you may file an A-to-z Guarantee claim. To file an A-to-z Guarantee, visit Request an A-to-z Guarantee Refund [amazon.com]




3.Amazon Global Store Returns


It can take up to 25 days for an item to reach us once you return it. Once the item is received at our fulfillment center, it takes 2 business days for the refund to be processed and 3-5 business days for the refund amount to show up in your account.
For most Amazon Global Store returns, you will be provided with a pre-paid UPS return label which allows you to return the item(s) to any UPS drop-off point located across the US. You can find your most convenient UPS location using the following link:

Not all Global Store items are eligible for a pre-paid return. In this case, you will need to return the item at your own expense. We recommend you return the item(s) using a trackable method at the carrier of your choice.
Amazon will automatically refund up to $20 for return postage costs on receipt of the item. If your return postage costs exceed $20, you may contact our Customer Service Center to request a refund of the remaining postage cost. If you return a defective, damaged or incorrect item, you'll be refunded the full postage cost, as well as your Import Fees Deposit, once your return is processed.

Refunds
When you return an item, your refund amount and refund method may vary. Check the payment method refunded and the status of your refund in Your Orders.

Note: All information on this page only relates to items bought from or Fulfilled by Amazon. Don't return items to Amazon that were bought on Amazon Marketplace and shipped to you by the seller.

How Long Do Refunds Take After I Return an Item?
When returning an item, you have the option to choose your preferred refund method in the Online Returns Center.

It can take up to 30 days for us to receive and process your return. When we complete processing your return, we issue a refund to the selected payment method. Learn how to Track Your Return.

Instant Refunds
If you want to use your refund without waiting for us to process your return, you can select the Instant Refund option, if it's available. Instant refunds are either refunded to your credit card or issued as an Amazon.com Gift Card balance. You'll still need to return your items within 30 days.

Refund Times
Once we issue your refund, it takes additional time for your financial institution to make funds available in your account. Refer to following table for more details.

Note: If you no longer have the physical pre-paid credit card, we still store the card within your account. You can use the card toward future purchases. For orders that used the Amazon Currency Converter, we issue the refund in your local currency using the same rate as the original order.
Gift Returns
The type of refund or credit a gift recipient receives depends on how the giver purchased the gift and how the recipient returns the gift. For more information, go to Return a Gift.

Amazon may determine that a gift recipient is eligible for a refund without requiring a return. If a gift return is eligible for a refund without returning the item, the gift recipient receives a notification in the Returns Center or via Customer Service. For more information, go to Conditions of Use.

Partial Refunds or Restocking Fees

Items in original condition past the return window* 80% of the item price
Opened CDs, DVDs, VHS tapes, cassette tapes, or vinyl records (taken out of its plastic wrap) 50% of the item price
Items with damage, missing parts, not in original condition, or that have obvious signs of use for reasons not due to an Amazon.com or seller error Up to 50% of the item price
Open software or video games for reasons not due to an Amazon.com or seller error 0% of the item price
*For most items, the return window is 30 days after delivery. To check the return window for an item you've ordered, go to Your Orders and select Return or Replace Items.

Note: For customers in CT, MD, NV, PA, VA, WV, and WI, tax on restocking fees may apply to return items shipped and sold by Amazon.com. Some products have additional conditions that may apply. For more information, go to About Our Returns Policies.
