I think this will go $999 soon, laptops and even macbooks are stagnant now. Everyone got one during Covid and not upgrading for a year or two!

I would so buy this if it only had 2 SSD slots rather than just 1. Even with just 1, I'm tempted to buy it to replace my 4.5 year laptop.

I agree. So much nicer to have two m.2 slots, especially with how cheap large m.2 SSDs are now.

Yeah this is darn near what ive been looking for. Was tempted by a XPS with no dedicated gpu but there prices are way too high for the specs. If this hits 999 I think i'll bite. I just want a nice screen and cpu power.

This is far better than the XPS 15 integrated GPU version. I think that version come with a 1920x1200 screen with 60Hz refresh rate and smaller 56 WHr battery which are subpar for the price.

My wife is starting to talk about upgrading her MacBook. It's frustrating to see that the performance of a $3000 MacBook can be had in a ~$1000 Windows laptop.

Is the RAM soldered on board or upgradeable?

This is a bit of an odd configuration as it has an iGPU with a high refresh rate screen. That said, nothing stops us from dropping the refresh to 60hz to save battery life. I'm not certain but this screen also is mini-LED with 240 dimming zones I believe (screen specs are the same as the dGPU model that is marketed as having that screen).

MSI did get hacked though earlier this year and their signing keys were taken. Their reaction so far hasn't been very good. I say this as the owner of an MSI motherboard who is wondering what will happen. At the very least, only download firmware and updates from the official website.

Also, I agree with other posters that laptop prices are going to keep dropping so I'm personally holding unless I see something really amazing.

Maybe someone can help with a recommendation. I'm really hoping for a 14 inch laptop with specs close to this. I'll take a small downgrade for the smaller size. Compared to this, I just want a good dedicated GPU instead of Iris. Any recs? I saw a decent Asus for $900 at Best Buy. But it doesn't have a webcam and that just sucks.

Slim 7 pro with the Ryzen 7 7735 was on sale for 999. Might be a good option when it goes back on sale

CPU these days are a overkill for 95% tasks like Web browsing, meeting/chatting, Microsoft Office. No need upgrade if you have a laptop <5 years old.

Costco has M1 MacBook Air for $800 and M2 MacBook Air for $1000. Just thought you might like to know. Not an Apple guy and not sure how they'd compare to this.

I was limping along with an A8-9600, 12GB RAM, SATA SSD laptop until recently getting an i5-1135G7, 8GB RAM, NVME SSD. It is so noticeably faster at everything. I even gave the old one the best chance I could with a fresh Windows install but I can't go back. You're probably right for laptops less than 5 years old like you said but if you're a cheap guy like me hanging on to something even older. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself (not necessarily to this laptop).
