a quick search shows it doesn't seem to be supported by dd-wrt or openwrt. Anyone have one that can confirm whether it can or not?

thanks!

For anyone wondering, this works perfectly for Oculus AirLink. No stuttering.

I am sure this router has a purpose for someone and somewhere. But there are a few things I won't try to go too cheap on.

1. Shoes
2. Bed
3. Home networking
I bought the same router on Nov 2021@$38 as refurb.

Reset, upgraded to latest firmware. Its 2023, sp far no hiccups. Connected 20+ devices when friends came.
Moved to a bigger house. Can get coverage throughout house. I hot 300Mbps speed and it deliver 275+ on same floor. On corner of house, the speed drop to 30+Mbps but so far the 4k videos plays without an issue on those spots.

If you do a lot of data upload or traffic on games, then look for Rax43 which is about 70 on renewed.

Cheap product vs cheaper price on decent product are two different things. Dont mix up.

I bought three of these to use as APs around my house. No real complaints, they work fine in that regard. Would not recommend as a primary router, though.
Have you set up the same SSID on all three? Almost like a mesh set up.

I think Amazon is playing Cart games on me. I saw the router for 17.58 I brought it and made a mistake on the payment so I cancelled, Went back and it cost me $20.47 used. Then I went to my phone and it cost $28.98 used. And then I finally went back to this website in incognito mode and saw the original price of 17.58.

bought one last March for $30 in a similar deal, all and all works great, except it won't work with two of my old legacy PCI wireless 802.11N cards, I had to add in an old N router in bridge mode to get them to work.
so if you have old items from ten years ago it may or may not work with this

Netgear is trash. I have a RAX43 (AX4200) which drops its 5GHz band at least once a week. Never had such an issue with my old AC outer running DD-WRT.
Their support is a joke. Avoid.

how bad could "acceptable" be, vs "good condition" which is $3 more (technical 17% more expensive)

This is a good deal if you have a smaller house under 2k sq ft and have internet no faster than 500Mbps, as long as the router works as advertised. Judging from the responses from some of the owners here it is working fine for a lot of people.

This would definitely make a great cheap wifi 6 AP or a backup router as mentioned by someone else.

I had one personally and absolutely no issues whatsoever. The 20 devices limit is not a real life deal breaker as I had more than 26 devices connected including IOT and didnt have any issues. so not sure where and how the 20 devices max limit is enforced technically.

This is not a mesh router and cannot be expanded.
That limit is a marketing gimmick, completely made up! You can ignore it, you have to remember AP's and routers 10 years ago were able to handle around 100 devices so to think current routers cant is a joke. The number they get is probably if all 20 devices were maxing out a connection at the same time, which would than choke the CPU/RAM, again that will never happen.

It also makes it easier for sales people to upsell someone who say, well I got 40 devices so what do I need if this one only does 20.

Quote from mcosf :
any potential security issues buying a used router?
Not really, reset the router through the reset button to default and its just like it was out of the box from the factory.
