I wouldn't even attempt that....those plants are way too big for this.
If you don't use it sure. But mine has plants in it every day. Currently have a red cherry tomato that is going on 200 days and a golden cherry going on 150 days both producing well. Picked over 50 tomatoes this past weekend. In the next month or so, after I plant the outdoor garden, I'll reset this one to herbs and lettuce. Harvest the herbs making pesto that I'll freeze and I'll dry the thyme, rosemary, etc in the oven and use that throughout the year. Then once the outdoor garden is almost done I'll replant the cherry tomatoes.
I bought my Farm24 Plus for $500 beginning of last year and I do agree that's overpriced. For $300 though I wouldn't think twice. You may never recoup the overall cost of the system but if you actually use it over it's lifetime you will come close and have the added benefit of fresh food. Plus in my area being able to just eat a handful of ripe cherry tomatoes when it's snowing outside is nice. If I lived south and could have a garden almost year round I wouldn't bother because as you said you can do the same with regular potted plants.
I also bought two of their Stem grow lights when they had that big 50% sale a couple months ago. Have two pathos plants at my desk at work where there is 0 sunlight and the plants are doing great. Plus the "natural" light makes it look less like a dungeon. Those are on sale for $32 each or 2 for $60 right now and if you get depressed sitting in a sunless office I highly suggest getting yourself some.
Also the CABIN20 coupon is for $20 off $100 or more and seems to work on everything. For example you can get two Sprouts ($70 + $25) and the cheapest seed kit ($11) for $86. Split it with a friend and even after taxes you are both paying $45 for a spout and some extra seeds.
Definitely doable. Might need to consider some factors, though.
