Subwoofers are power hogs and the bigger the driver, the more power they need. Most people don't understand that speaker power is logarithmic, which means you need large increases in power for small increases in volume. In this example, 1200W is only slightly louder than 600W, and moderately louder than 300W.

I like Elac but will never buy a powered speaker that relies on an app to change settings. It's one "end of support" announcement away from bricking your speaker's functionality.

1200W?? That's kinda nuts who even needs such powerful speakers?? (genuine question, I cannot fathom what kind of person would need that)

My Monolith M-215s are 2000W (3600W peak) 😆. I wonder how they compare to these 12 inch models for music. I feel like the Monoliths are kind of lackluster in that department. They're more so made for ULF in movies

For music you have to turn them up. Music gets mastered at 85-90db.

Most people listen to music at 70-75 db, but bass requires another 10db or so feel balanced at that point.

Turn up the sub another 10 db, and it'll feel right.

Has anyone actually heard the RS-700? I'm looking to understand how it compares with the SVS SB-3000 for music

Can anyone give a quick explanation for "dual" subwoofers, like these? I know that having two separate subs placed in different parts of the room can help improve the overall consistency of the sound. But it seems like these dual subs wouldn't have that benefit.

In general, I thought that spending $X on one sub provided better volume and quality vs spending the same amount but on two speakers. So $1000 vs $500x2. If you remove the benefit of having the subs in separate locations, why spend your money on a dual box?

dual opposing driver is supposed to be more inert because they fire in opposite directions, so cabinet doesnt require as much bracing to achieve same results, most people just buy it because it looks cool.

you would always be better off just buying 2 subs though and placing them in corners to smooth out room modes.

Ooh, maybe floor and center channels will be on sale soon. Loving the pair of bookshelf I got as surrounds and want to update the front now.

These were just released a few months back, not sure why Adorama is putting them on sale, maybe it's just the normal price under MSRP strategy.

Looking at DS1200's predecessor, SUB3070 seems more premium (feet, finishes) and had a lower MSRP

Someone who wants high output at low frequencies with a quick transient response. 600W per 12" driver is not atypical for a sealed subwoofer.

Oversized ported is where it's at though. My 15" titanic in an 8ft^3 box tuned to 14hz only has 370w rms available and it'll move some significant air!
