They certainly are good for a driveway, tho the 1.77" thickness mandates a proper base. Concrete pavers are typically double the compressive strength (8,000 psi vs 4,000 psi) of a poured concrete driveway, therefore you don't rate the paver thickness in the same way as the thickness of concrete you'd place (typically 4" minimum for poured concrete).

I've installed this same thickness paver on a driveway, using a subbase of rough 'no finish' 3,000 psi mix over compacted soil, with a 1" - 1 1/2" thick sand bed between the concrete subbase and the pavers.
It's going on 20 years and still looks great.

Naturally if you can get pavers that are 2 3/8" thick or better that would be preferable, but there's nothing wrong with 1 3/4" thick concrete pavers if you know what you're doing for the base.
Probably not these. I think you'd need solid stone or hard fired brick to resist the high temps properly.
EDIT: Actually, there is concrete you can use for high heat applications, but I'm betting these pavers aren't it.
You're looking for fire bricks, which these are not. Fire bricks retain heat - look for medium duty fire bricks, if possible.

maybe good for building a raised garden border...? Wall blocks would be more efficient generally and better shaped, but also cost a good bit more, around $2 each, or more. At 4 / $1, can just stack four of them and still cost less than most wall blocks!
Had 6" high wood walls previously, but they rotted after a few years. So 12' x 4' bed, with pavers stacked 4 high... around $48 (4x 48 = 192 pavers)
