With that said, a few things I found out pretty quickly about it after buying:
The X3 is supposedly waterproof down to 33 feet, but if any of the doors on it are open (and apparently sometimes even if they're not!) it will die. I've seen a handful of posts about people who took it in water and it ended up dying. They do sell a dive case for it.
While it shoots in 5.7k, remember that this is the entire 360 degrees. When you export in 16:9 or 9:16, you'll likely get something closer to 1080p which will look like 720p.
The RS 1 inch (about $800) will give you much better picture quality, especially at night. Sensor size is 4x the size of the X3, but it's not waterproof and misses some of the fun features like slow-motion and bullet time.
If you do get any of these, I recommend getting the Invisible Selfie Stick to go with it. Even the 3 foot one is plenty for this.
The lenses are the last thing -- when you start to actually use this, you'll find that the lenses are very prone to getting banged around (especially on a selfie stick or in action sports). Once you get a chip or scratch on them, it will always show up in anything you shoot. It sucks. Bang it against a tree or pole while doing a pan? doing sports and have a fall? any of them can easily mess up your lens quality. They do make stick-on lens covers (but they'll affect your image quality, and add a more noticeable "seem" to where the lenses meet together in your videos.. and then the dive cases (which also offer extra protection, more waterproofing.. but will add a larger seem/transition in your videos)
I opted to keep the RS 1 inch because the quality was so much better for me.
One last note: You can edit videos either on your phone or in the desktop app. The Phone app seems to have the most features and be easiest to use.. the desktop app is lacking those but has a higher export output.
Personally.. Assuming this isn't in Costco's "90 day return window" and has their standard "return anytime for any reason" return policy, I would pay the extra for the peace of mind that you have the option to take it back if the lenses get damaged or it leaks.
Insta360's HQ is located in China.. so in addition to any repair costs, you need to mail your 360 to them in China which can be timely/costly, and then wait for it back. I've heard lens repairs are about $200?

How is this price correct? From the product page:
"Members get an estimated $45.00 back on this item.
Add a lifetime membership for a one-time fee of $30"
$45 from $450 is $405…add the $30 membership fee and it's $435…a whopping $10 savings!!!
