You can ride a hybrid bike on gravel fine. Go with a hybrid bike. It sounds like you are riding casually around with comfort as a high priority. If you aren't hitting the mountain bike trails or riding the gravel trails seriously for speed/distance, don't go for either mountain or gravel bike. Use the right tool for the job. Use a hybrid bike as it rides more comfortably on the road than both. Faster and smoother ride than a mountain bike on the road too. The Giordano Brava hybrid bike is on sale for $209.99 and it has nice components like 80mm fork suspension, tektro disc brakes, 24 speed, Shimano components like Atlus derailleur, internal cable routing, etc. This is a hybrid bike with 700cx40mm tires so it isn't for the legit mountain bike trails. If you are definitely going to hit the mountain bike trails and are on a tight budget, the GT Aggressor at $300 is a pretty solid deal.

The 8th gear is when the chain jumps out of gear.

The Schwinn Axum only comes in one size and it's pretty big. If you're not 6' tall, cross that right off your list, regardless of components or upgradeability or whatever.

This GT comes in four different sizes to provide a comfortable and safe fit for practically everyone.

The bullet points say "21-speed drivetrain" which would mean 7 gears in the back and possibly a freewheel, but the specs say it's an 8-speed cassette. Can anyone confirm what it actually is?

Ha, good one! Gotta check those limit screws.

For just riding around town 7 or 8 in the back shouldn't matter much, but the bigger difference would be if it's a freewheel or cassette. A cassette has the rear hub bearings further outboard and can take more abuse, especially off-road abuse.

Own an Axum and tuned this for a friend - get an Axum if you want to do hardcore trails if has a more aggressive geo and tapered head tube. which allow use of modern forks without an adapter. I built mine and took it to the bike park and black trails.

The aggressor would be a better decent all-around-bike however if you want to ride it on the road and light trails with the 3x drivetrain - it does get out of sync though and it took me a while to fix my friends but will give you more range.

Just re-starting on biking, as new bee. Got a old Bianchi hybrid, tuned by a hobbiyst and stored 4+ years.

Didnt understood much on what you said. Is it better to overhaul and use same bike and upgrade when I do more biking? Or is op one a good one, so buy to start from beginning?

We moved to new place where trailer are there and would finally got time for rolling.

It is a nice bike. I bought one for my kid and he enjoys it a lot. This is the cheapest ever since the COVID increase.

If you're not doing some hardcore trails the Bianchi should be enough. is still a decent bike even for light trails, just the Axum is one step up above it and the GT with a more aggressive geometry and wide tires for more hardcore trails. The GT aggressor is older geometry for hard trails but is good for light trails and road with the 3x gears.

If I was doing mainly light trails and road and needed a new bike the GT is probably the better choice over the Axum.
