I believe that this all runs on zwave which mean it can be integrated into something like home assistant and eliminate the reliance on the cloud.

This is a more advanced use case for sure though

Costco's bundle seems to be better valued. For $250,
1 camera and sound detector instead of a motion and keyboard. Just use app to disarm/arm

Z-Wave is just the wireless communication protocol used by the hardware to share data between each of the wireless devices (ie. hub, door sensors, motion sensors, etc.). Essentially how all the devices in the security system's ecosystem talks to each other. If security systems are not using Z-Wave for wireless comms then it could be Zigbee, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or the latest Thread.

This is nothing to do with the cloud based internet content (camera videos, camera person detection algorithms, etc.). Ring charges a monthly fee for their cloud storage services and access to their Ring app beyond basic features.

Home Assistant is just the voice chat-bot which offers limited commands for security systems outside of things like turning on/off lights and locking doors. Modern security systems usually have access to link to Google's Home Assistant, Amazon Alexa, or Apple Siri to have voice command features.

Like I said it's a pretty advanced setup and allows you to use the hardware from this kit with local software.

Agree, extra keypad is not needed in most cases.

Helps if you have a two floor situation, don't have to walk all the way downstairs to turn it off. Phone helps but not everyone in our house is tech savvy (elderly parents).

Note: Both of these require you to replace your existing router and use their Eero system. I ended up sending mine back based on that (my existing router and access points are significantly more capable than that router and the Eero ecosystem). If you're looking for a new router, this may be a good deal (potentially with other access points to extend range/speed), but otherwise this probably isn't what you're looking for. I was told by the Ring tech support I'd need to purchase an older version that doesn't come with the Eero router (which I think they do still sell).

I ended up replacing my faster, better Netgear router with the Alarm Pro. Unfortunately, the router in this system was a downgrade. Took a while to set up & had to play with settings to adjust lag. However, the backup Internet feature is a huge plus for me. All the router issues seemed to be resolved when I purchased an Eero extender (refurbished to keep cost down). While my Netgear was much faster when connecting to Live View away from home, the extender helped decongest all the wireless devices relying on the one base & this helped cut the time it took to connect to Spotlight Cam (battery FYI) close to what the Netgear router offered.

TL;DR: Backup Internet is awesome & worth it to me, but you may have to spring for an extender to help with the base's router shortcomings in connectivity.
