A friend of mine owns these speakers... I'm amazed at how warm they sound for a DefTech product. I had to incorporate a tube Cayin preamp and Tara Labs interconnect to reduce the brightness of my BP9060. It's pleasantly surprising how musical they sound, more akin to a music setup rather than a home theater. I'm genuinely curious because, in my previous encounters with DefTech, I never experienced good imaging, even my SM65 had difficulty blending seamlessly. Hopefully, this particular model performs better in that regard.

Any idea if these pair nicely with a CS8040 or other previous-gen centers?

I know you can usually mix and match generations (and am using the CS 8040 with my SM55's right now) but these seem like they may not be timbre-matched at all anymore?

Agree. I still tried to figure it out. About to pull the trigger when it was 1099, then it dropped to 999, now is 849. Can it be that bad?

The RP8000F II (new version) might probably be better overall but it's more expensive.

No idea about these particular Def techs, but I loved my BP2000's. They sounded great and created a nice soundstage, but they needed real power to sing. My 110wpc Denon receiver just didn't cut it. I used an adcom 300wpc amp to power them, and the denon to power the center and rears. The downside was they were huge, and because of this, when we moved all the Def tech speakers stayed with the home theater at the old house.

You have a denon with 110 watts per channel? Must be a very pricey AVR !

It was an avr-3803. It also stayed with the house. If I remember right it cost around $1000 at the time. And also from what I remember, my wife wasn't happy about my spending that much for it. Luckily she never found out about how much I spent for the BP2000's or the center and surrounds.

I dont think anything is off. These are quite an old model at this point. Def tech is clearly trying to clear out its old stock in favor of a new design line. The BP series just got a facelift (i have the older model). Overall def tech had those pro cinema speakers that sucked and killed their reputation in the audiophile world.
That plus if u expect any sort of service i hear really only bad things. I purchase from BestBuy to prevent any service issues, and the product makes me smile every day

I love my RP-280FA's (2 generations ago, with Atmos speakers built in). To get a very small, almost imperceptible sound quality difference requires a massive increase in price IMO. Seriously diminishing returns on performance/price once you go higher than Klipsch RP series.

I paid $720 for the pair shipped new, about 18 months ago. bargain - spectacular for home theater, great for music, especially paired with my Yamaha Aventage RX-A770 AVR.
