is this food jar better than the one from thermos?
I have a thermos and during winter, the hot pasta that i made at 9am become cold by noon.
Your food jar from thermos may be defective. I have the 24oz and cooking from 8am stays hot until noon. It was still lukewarm by 5pm. You can test your thermos quickly by filling it with hot water, close it, and then feel the outside. It should feel cold, as if there is nothing inside. I had a thermos that failed within 5 months and got replaced under warranty and has been working well ever since. In my opinion, both Thermos and Hydroflask make good product. I have hydroflasks bottle for about 3-4 years now for hot drinks and they have not lost their insulation.
Hydroflask makes high quality stuff but at this point you are paying for the brand logo. There are many alternatives that perform as well and are much cheaper. Even the Ozark trail Walmart brand is comparable in most cases.

Do you fill it with scalding water and let it sit while you're getting the food ready, so the bottle is preheated? I don't really use them now but when I used a thermos carafe for coffee it made a huge difference

Yes I do, to preheat the jar before putting hot food in
