Wouldn't it be better to just use an external SSD like the Samsung T7 or something and save yourself massive bux?

I guess it can be argued it's not but it's not a 1:1 since I believe the Costco deal has a 512gb SSD. If the extra $400 is worth it to you for double the storage, not a bad deal. Still smokin' over any deals out there before.

The discount rate is not as good as the Costco one for sure. I just want to check if 1TB SSD will bring the performance benefits. The storage itself is cheap nowadays and professionals use NAS or external SSD for multimedia storage.

Exactly. The bare minimum for anyone to future-proof IMHO.

FYI: budget for Applecare and regular complete backups and/or cloud storage, as soldered flash storage fails far too often with these things and is not repairable. Just ask Louis Rossman:

There are plenty of self-hosted folks (ie self employed folks) who have neither the technical prowess nor the support infrastructure (read: IT awareness and knowledge) to be able to do something like that. Yes, it's trivial for anyone familiar with IT (get a network, get a Synology box, stick some drives in it, format it, make a share; add 10GBe for 10x the speed; flip to SSD to sustain any of that speed) but for a videographer professional, sometimes those skills aren't known.

Having all in one, 1TB, done, has some value for some. And saving $140 or so (tax) via the Payboo credit card is nice.

FWIW, I'm *still* waiting on credit acceptance of my Payboo application from a week or two ago. How long did everyone else's take? If I wanted to save the tax and make this purchase, I could not do so. Frown

Sure, maybe a NAS is a little more complicated to set up, but external drives are cheap and pretty much as easy to use as internal, at least if you're at home. It is more convenient to have more storage internally, so it just depends how much that's worth to you.

Always go with 1TB or more storage option, since you would be using this laptop for five years. Over the time, you end up downloading a lot of stuff, and want to retain some random documents. 512GB will be full in five years. With 1TB, you don't need to worry.

So y'all happy with just 16GB RAM on it when you are buying 1TB storage?

Unless you're a super power user, even 8 GB of RAM is fine on an M1. 16 GB will easily last 5+ years.

I think if you use this laptop for any part of your job 16 GB could fall under, over next couple of years.
