This is informative, but I think this is from a point of view that's not really representative of an average Saucony buyer's. Majority of runners are heel-strikers and not very competitive at all. I agree with holding out for the Speeds because they are such great, versatile shoes; but I wouldn't necessarily call these models gimmicks just because they don't serve a purpose for you. The new Triumphs and Shifts make far more sense to an average runner than the Endorphin Pros, and no one should be considering them alternatives to each other anyway. That's absolute nonsense. And at this price, I would even consider them much better values than the Speeds as daily trainers.

For daily trainers, the Shift is an amazing shoe. I was on the fence when I got them, but I am off the fence now, for sure.

The Triumphs, as always, are some of the softest easy day/recovery shoes you can buy. Always a staple in my shoe rotation.

great to hear. I'm enjoying the Shift 2 so I went for the 3. Took the shoe off the rack in a store was surprised at the weight reduction.

Okay, it's nice to finally see some deals on higher quality running shoes. But these models are the least desirable in the Saucony performance line.

The Shift is a fake Endorphin. It lacks the Pebax popcorn midsole that the more expensive Endorphins such use. Saucony uses EVA for the Shift. It's firm and unpleasant to run in IMO. This model is targeted towards the budget conscious and runners seeking a bit of stability.

The Tempus is also compromised. While it has a top layer of Pebax in the midsole configuration to provide some performative oomph the shoe uses a firm EVA carrier "frame" to provide "stability". This dual density midsole design choice negates the benefits of Pebax by zapping it of it's cush and bounciness.

The Triumph went in a bad direction with version 20. Saucony increased the heel drop to 10mm from 8mm. As a result the shoe is now strictly consigned to heel strikers. Even with walking, version 19's 8mm drop was already causing some noticable heel scuffing for me. 10mm is going to be even more awkward to walk or run in.

Bottom line is these three models are problematic and flawed. There's better alternatives out there. Runners should avoid shoes that utilize stability gimmicks and firm non-supercritical midsoles. I suggest holding out for the Endorphin Speed 3 or the Pro 3. Those are Saucony's REAL running shoes.

How you evaluate Shift vs Speed?

I have never purchased expensive running shoes before, but I went into fleetfeet the other day and tried on Hoka Clifton 9s and New balance 1080 v12s. The hokas squeezed the lateral side of my feet too tight, but the new balances felt amazing. I also heard Saucony was a great brand, but the clerk didn't have me try any of them on at the time. Which of these 3 shoes should I be looking at if I'm looking for a comfortable everyday walking shoe with an occasional 4-5 mile run on the weekend.

Shift 2 is too firm. Could be ok for short distances if you're lighter weight.

Speed 2s were great but do not last long. Maybe 100 miles

I have 280 miles on my Speed 2s zero concerns they're going anywhere soon based on the lack of wear.

My wife, 5ft 11 235lbs has continually beaten her pb 5Ks race times, race after race.. yesterdays race she set a new pb in both her mile and 5K times in the Shift 2. She returned the ghost 14s, pro 3s, 1080s, 880s and speed 3s because they simply feel the best to her when she's out there getting her miles in. She actually returned the Shift 3 as the updated version just isn't better and feels entirely different on foot (i concur with her sentiments)

I'm 5ft 8 150. I have an absurd amount of running shoes and while they're certainly a heavier shoe, i enjoy running anywhere from 13 miles to a 5K in them, I don't have any desire to run less than 5K in them as i prefer a lighter snappier shoe.

The low miles on your shoes with the damage you're suggesting isn't typical of the speed series at all. I've genuinely ran the heck out of mine and not at all the same results here.

That's the concern I have for the Tempus. They have cheaped out on using less prebax. However, is it a bad choice even at $80 + tax ?

The main problem with the Tempus, which has been reported in reviews, is that the EVA PWRRUN frame puts pressure under the medial arch. Saucony strategically shaped the EVA layer to be very thick under the arch to provide "support" while thinning out the Pebax in the same area. Asymmetrical midsole designs such as this are just not a good idea imo. They mess around with the biomechanics of the runner, lead to uneven outsole wear, and even potential injury.

The Endorphin Speed 4 is expected to launch in August. So the Speed 3 will go on clearance sale as early as late July. I suggest waiting for the Speed 3 deals.

Yes, they do. A return UPS label is included with each order.
